Here is a list of some things I would really appreciate people to stop doing immediately as it pertains to this forum. Please understand that this is some stuff I personally have found annoying as I mod this board, but I'd love it if other C & C mods would come in here and add to the list or tell me I'm just being nuts:

1. "No rules, no regs, yadda": Some of this may be a genuine effort to help new club makers, but I get the feeling this is more a situation of people trying to post count +1 and backseat mod without getting nailed. Most of the stuff I see in this forum is completely crap and not worth a lock and explanation. I just delete it, and I am here EVERYDAY deleting quite a lot of crap. If you are post count +1'ing, I am gleefully and happily thwarting you. Give that up now. If you are really trying to help the topic starter, your message is probably not being received, try a PM to them directly. If you really must post something in the topic, post a link to Newgrundling's thread. But you're best bet is to just PM the author if you really care. I'd like to get this sort of posting curbed before it gets to where I or others decide it's really something malicious and take action. I really do like the community spirit this forum has, it's not recognized enough. We need to channel it into effectively helping people be great and active contributors here.

2. Posting in topics it's obvious will be deleted: When you see someone who has cocked up and posted a reply as a topic (I.E. A topic titled "I want to join!" then the body being "I like anime, can I join The Anime Club?") don't freakin post in that, it's just gonna be deleted, and it tends to make me want to issue at least a very short ban. Common sense guys, don't waste time or effort to make fun of or comment on somebody else's mistake, especially if they realize it's a mistake and ask for it to be corrected or deleted.

I think that's all I can come up with for now. If anybody has anything else worth discussing, post it up, wish we had the ability to make this topic a sticky. I'm posting this because like I said, I really like this forum and I'm committed to improving it and making it a good fun place for all. So if we could stamp out some these negative behaviors and redirect it to more helpfully and fully supporting new and existing club leaders as we all try to have fun around here. Thanks for listening :)

But i do have a question i helped out someone that made another sims 1 club and it was deleted by ramagi i believe. I linked to the other club and told him the rules but she deleted it and the person remade the club and was locked. So wouldn't it be best to only lock the club instead of deleting it?

With a post like that; no, they can't join the Anime Club.

If they're not going to read the rules in the first place, why would they read this?

That is very true. I hope I will remember this since I am new to NewGrounds.

When I do that, I mean to help people, not +1 post. But, if you wish for me to stop, I will stop.

This type of thing is mentioned, though not as specifically as you have just wrote.

Users need to understand that if they make a post in a club that is clearly going to be deleted they may as well not post because it doesn't count toward their post count anyway. Also, you can be pretty easily banned for it as well. Posting in a spam topic is spam, sometimes it's not just the topic starter or the flame war starters who get the ban, especially if a mod uses their destroy button.

If you have an idea for a new club, run it by in the C&C Regulars Lounge Thread they can tell you if it's been done before and how to make it successful.

I'm so sick of these "low-level/recent sign-up date/some other level of exclusivity" lounges....

Have people forgotten about General and all of the topic-specific clubs?

I like his "and if this club lasts until 2008, those users can join too (though I doubt it'll still be around in 2008)"

so...what use was making the club other than to have another link in his sig and someplace else he can dump his ramblings for a post +1?

I like where this topic is going. I've seen a lot of annoying shit the first time I've joined the Clubs and Crews, which was 2 years ago. C&C members is more like it, well, the great ones at least. :)

and active contributors here.

I guess I win in that category.

Got a brilliant idea, more rules. The Clubs and Crews should be an elegant place to type in, not some pile of shit where you can dump your spam at.

-Any person who says the following, "I wanna join." or "Can I join?" without any information on why they wanna join will result in a ban.

-Picture spamming, but you guys got that already covered. ;)

-Making sudden rules like who's captain or who's the main leader in the group. The group is a whole, not a ranking system. Any signs of this will result in a small ban.

-Read FAQ and Club and Crew Guildlines, or Oscars rules and blah blah blah.

That's basically all I got for now. :(

that reminds me this place really should have a separate rule topic just like the Art forum with the specific rules that mods have been trying to enforce for years.

and rule 1 should be: don't piss Ramagi off because she's not as nice as Aviewaskewed

I'm going to try and cover two posts at once here, and clarify, so bare with me here :).

I am not trying to accuse anybody in particular of wrong doing. I'm sure 99% of that type of posting is meant to honestly help guide somebody in the right direction, the problem is that it won't help if the topic is deleted. On that note 99% of topics will be deleted, that's the way most of us do things, for me personally I will delete WAY more then I lock, the only time you will catch me locking is if I think the person had a meritus idea but just didn't have the execution down. These are people I want to try again, and not think of the locking as discouraging. But then again the topic is just going to ultimately be deleted anyway, so I'm not doing that two step if it isn't needed, or worse, I'm not locking it and then making work for somebody else with the deleting. If you really want to help the topic author, take advantage of the PM system and see if you can't point them in the right direction that way. I'm all for help, what I'm against is this uniform thing I've seen lately that is like "no rules, no regulations, this won't last" it to me is the same kind of worthless and annoying posting as "please lock/delete/ban/spurt in this guys faic!!!". We can do better than that.

As far as what was mentioned about lock over delete because someone may not understand. Look, the rules are very clear that if your topic is locked or deleted, even without an explanation, you can't repost it. It's a very clear rule and there's no loopholes to it, it's not the problem of the mods if people aren't reading the very clearly stated, easy to understand rules. Like I said above, I have my own policies about what deserves a lock and what dosen't, I imagine everybody else does too, but in practice, 99% of all topics moderated these days results in a delete. So if we go by that criteria, I think if you really want to be helpful, you PM the club starter, and you foster the idea that C & C is a community that you become a part of, not a place to tout out your own little fiefdom or increase your post count.

I don't care about your post count, I don't even care about my own post count really. I'm betting this is true of other mods as well. So for those of you who ARE only making the kind of posts I'm asking be refrained from here for the purposes of +1, keep that in mind :)

People just need to stop posting that full stop. All that happens is that n00bs think they MUST have rules, and all they end up doing is repeating stuff that's already in the BBS rules (i.e. "no spamming, no flaming, stay on-topic, etc"). The whole concept of "rules" should only be used for defining what is and isn't on-topic for a given club, and most of the time that's self evident anyway.

Also, yeah, most of the new stuff I see in here, I delete, because it's been done before, is lame, is off-topic, or all of the above.

Response to Stop doing this please! Oct 27, 2007

I understand what is being said and I fully believe that most of the people who do make threads in the first place with no effort or are just posting repeating threads, just don't pay attention in the first place and will probably be the people who make a topic and then leave it after a few posts.

At times, I also think that some use alts to create some threads.. I've seen some pretty obscene ones here before.. even for Newgrounds..

It was deleted but anyone remember the "Dead Fetus Crew"?

I agree with this, I remember once seeing someone "copy + paste" a paragraph or two on every club that has been made before or broke the rules. I mean helping is one thing but stop sounding like an automated telephone system.
