THE BIG BROTHER 2003-02-13 16:53:24

Hello, I readed a book called: 1984 by George Orwell
This book talk about a world manipulated , where everybody was aliened
by the Big Brother, and everybody loves and adores him. because this is a book you should read by yourselves and if i reveal something of the book it will go to trash but I think, it looks like the actual world.

anyone has readed this book?

i don't, but please don't tell the ending because i'm going to read it.

I think it's a very interesting book "a priori"

Interesting note... I was watching an episode "Great Books" did about 1984. Despite Orwell's paranoia of a "Big Brother"-esque society, his political tendencies leaned toward socialism and communism. Seems rather strange.

well, i assume, he was more of a pro-Marx type communism and not Lenin's type... because they are different. Lenin more of a totalitarian, where as Marx just wanted a single class.

True... he liked the socialist republic in Spain, and aided in the civil war against Franco's rebellion. He fell in love with the fact that he saw no class distinction.

INGSOC is a manipulated form of Socialism, and that's what Orwell intended, to use it as an analogy to Communism, which Orwell considered a manipulated form of Socialism. INGSOC isn't Socialism and it isn't Communism. It's a Big Brother govt. in Orwell's head.

George Owerll fought in the Spanish Civil War , and he was member of the Trosky Party, he imagined this world if communists had won the war, but I repeat, it seems like the actual world, for example: before we hated Bin laden today we hate Sadan , who we will hate tommorow? our hate it's controled by the system.(the book speak about it too)

It's good, isn't it?
Well, he could predict how the future would be like quite well.
Sometimes he exaggerated a little bit, but it's definitly (is that spelled right?) a good book.

Orwell was a great writer and 1984 should be read by everyone.

His views of the world in 1984 where a bit over the top, it was his idea of the future taken to an absolute, but it's scary how you can see our society heading down that path.

Today we have propoganda campaigns to make sure we always have an enemy which orwell demonstrates in "The two minute hate", which is just propoganda taken to an absolute.

Anyway for anyone who hasn't read the book, do so now, it's a classic.

orwell was ungry a lot of times because people said that 1984 was a critic to comunism its wrong. orwell did a critic of all the totalarist. comunist and fascist too.

with the idea of execrator i agree and a little note: now 5% of USA thinks that was sadam husein who did the 11-s atentads, no osama ben-ladden

True... 1984 is quite timely. I have been frequently reminded of it many times sice 9-11. I see the way in which our government has a constant need to villify someone. By selecting a target and taking action against that target the people are given the illusion that some great victory is at hand. Keep the people hating a distant enemy and they have little time to look for the cracks in their government's facade.

that books scares the crap out of me. The totaliarism government forces people to do what they say. Almost like school.
