Older members call em newbies cause they ask newbie questions that have already been answered a million times before in previous posts. Most members will be quite helpful and re-direct you to these places.

Before you ask questions, just check previous topics to see if your question has already been answered.

Cause in most cases they are. The little pic of the baby hand with lollypop doesn't help.

Because we ARE N00Bs. You get this with almost every Internet society. Don't worry though, as long as you don't ask TOO many newbie questions and don't piss off the higher level people you'll soon drop the Newbie logo. (Getting lots of XP to get rid of that lollipop helps too.)

Everyone was once a 'n00b' so it's kinda ironic.

Newbies, by definition, means someone new to something. However, many times I have seen this meaning being altered. In games, newbies now mean "unskilled". The reason why they think like that is if they are new, then they haven't played for long enough and therefore unskilled. That's why new term, 1337 (elite) also went out, meaning "skilled". That's why in games you can see people calling "Yea, I beat you, I'm so 1337!" and things like that. It has degraded so that 1337 is a praise and newbie (n00b) became an insult.

Same with NG, although in NG the meaning has altered even more. People generally call other people n00bs if they say stupid comments. The reason is that when they are newbie, they don't know a lot of things, so they either ask stupid questions or make stupid comments. So it really has nothing to do with levels, because the meaning has altered. It is now more of an insult to people who are acting idiotic.
