Well. They were a ska band, which is like a sub-genre of punk I guess.
But my favourite would've been Kicked in the Head.
Sadly they're breaking up after they release their next album =( Though this one is more punk than their old ska one, seeing as they refuse to do ska now.
If you like them, be sure to buy their stuff and support them. Hopefully it'll just make them stay together that bit longer...

I would say the Dead Kennedy's: great lyrics with great riffs = great music
yeah, I don't listen to much punk, but Misfits is a good band. The Dead Kennedys, when you think about it, are right about everything.

The only two punk bands that have been listed are Dead Kennedys and The Misfits.IF you want some real punk try Minor Threat,Bad Brains, The Exploited, Circle Jerks, Velvet Underground,Black Flag, yea there you go thats a list of good punk bands

Green Day? Crap now? I dont think so, but they are one of my favourites without a doubt. Billy Talent is up there. if they count, and Blink 182 when they were still together.
The Offspring with Green Day and Social Distortion also up there. Most punk songs all sound the same, but those 3 get some variation in it, and make really good songs. Not to mention, noone can scream like the Offspring.

Except for Velvet Underground since they arn't punk in any way shape or form. They're alternative plain and simple. Still damn good band choices.
Oh and I've gotta give respect to the Distillers not only is Brody fucking gorgeous but her lyrics are great and they make good music. Ska rocks.

Playing on MTV doesn't make you pop. It just means that some punk bands are very popular, so MTV puts their music on to draw viewers. G.D., S.D., and Offspring all have simular sounds to the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, and other "real" punk bands.

RHCP are played on MTV, and they're not pop, they are funk-rock. The foos are played on MTV, they're not pop, they're rock. This list could go on forever

Question: Why do all of these fucking 11-15 year olds think they can claim to be real punks just because they've downloaded a couple of fucking songs from older bands? Seriously I've been into punk music for a long assed time and just because I listen to a lot of independant and older stuff doesn't mean that I'm close-minded to any band that can get a major record deal. as to punk what it is, i'm not sure. I believe it's supposed to be anti government stuff and fast paced rocky, sometimes even ska-ish songs? too much half punk bands for me to define a true punk band :P
anyway , green day is just as bad as avril lavigne nowadays. or worse. it's pure pop music. still you can like it, but don't deny it's pop. just because good charlotte wants to look tough doesn't mean they are tough :P
anyway, dead kennedys are good. if they are still considered punk, my vote goes to them :)
