There are some changes going on over here in NG-land, so I thought I would inform everyone!

First off, Ross has been overhauling the Grounds Gold system. Instead of using cookies, it now uses PHP sessions that are tracked on our server. Once the crossover is complete, it will make the user sessions more reliable and fun for everyone, but currently there are some bugs. For example, it won't track your votes if you aren't logged in - so in order to get your 5 experience pts for the day, be sure you log in before you vote on movies. This will be fixed shortly.

Once this is done, we are finally going to focus on putting together some hardcore admin tools for Wade and I to use. It is something we have been sorely lacking for a long time, and has resulted in lots of extra work for Ross because he has to waste his time dealing with problems on the site that we should be able to deal with. Once the admin system is in place, we will be enforcing much stricter rules in the Portal and BBS - whiping out many more crappy Flash movies and user accounts along the way. The same goes with reviews - if you are one of those people who posts nothing but crappy/negative reviews, expect to see your user account go bye-bye. We are sick of good Flash artists being discouraged by asshole 13 year olds (no offense to the non-asshole 13 year olds - you're ok, even though you should have parental guidance if you're on this site). :)

ANYWAY... A while back we got moved to temporary hosting while the site was looking for a cheaper hosting facility. When we finally moved to a new facility in NYC, we stayed on our temporary server (which wasn't as good as the old one and has lots of issues). Our old server is being upgraded and we plan to be transfering back to it within the next 30 days. I don't know how much better the site will run at this point, but it should be a bit better.

Stick with us and I promise things will be improving over the next year. Newgrounds really went downhill during 2001, but we're gonna do our best to climb to the top by the end of 2002!

being a PHP programmer myself, session as MUCH cleaner way of doing logins and the such then cookies. the other benefit is that you can show how many people are logged on at the same time and better stats reporting:-P

i do admit newgrounds seem to be handling pretty well under the stress i am guessing it is hitting. hopefully u guys have upgraded to the more cleaner PHP version that is bitcode based, not C based and has to run through another interperer

however, i feel that the user removal system for flash posted may need to be upped...maybe its just me, but when a flash piece has 30 votes and sitting at 0.00 and doesn't delete, something may be wrong.

keep up the good work and good luck on your admin system!

I have personally gotten a lot of laughs from some of the clocks and the anti-clock movies. The funny clocks will stay, but a lot of the lame-ass clock wannabes would most likely get scrapped.

Yo Tom and crew,
I realize you must get 10,000 e-mails a day, in addition to the posts but I hope you have a minute to read mine. I'm 25, live right outside Philly, Drexel Hill. I've been a fan for about a year or so enjoying the successes and battles that the site has endured. The Clock Crew's antics and the celebrity bashing has always brought a smile to my face. The server problems and the missing FLASH presentations...All and all your site has gotten me through some tough shit. Anyway, the reason for this post is that I'll be coming into some money in about 6 months or so and I'd like to contribute some of it to your organization. From one stranger to another, you've done something here, others try to emulate but your name stands out from the crowd. I wish you luck and am in high hopes that your mentally twisted and fucked up humor, emotionally touching and real life issues FLASH entries continue to flow in, so that the world, and maybe some day my kids, may be able to enjoy all that Newgrounds has to offer.

Sincerely,

James DiMeo
Jim@blacklighter.com

P.S. I'm not talking 50 bucks here, it will be a significant amount.. just an F.Y.I.
Take Care

Sounds cool. You should also keep an eye on people submitting Child Porn movies. Good thing BLAM club deleted some stupid naked Olsen Twins movie or you would be in deep shit. You should also clean the Portal from the Vote 5 scam movies, except for Strawberry's since that's part of the collection. Speaking of Child Porn, isn't what Strawberry Clock submitted also Child Porn? It's that "Pokemon Uncensored" movie. I mean, most of those characters are 10 you know.

I honestly don't feel the Clocks should be banned. The official ones like Orange etc should be allowed to stay. The others who are just trying to get their own bit on the Clock Crew section need i.p banning, because they arn't entertaining and are just annoying. You sort them out Tom, and we all hope the new upgrades will be sucessful :)

Basically we will look and say "pudgymoogle has 5 fake accounts" and we would delete the 4 fake ones, and email you saying "Please don't create fake accounts again". So we would warn everyone first. It's not really fake accounts we mind, it's what people do with them. If someone wants to make a 2nd account to post funny comments on the BBS, or upload Flash, that's fine, as long as it isn't causing a problem. However, we have people posting junk flash, from multiple accounts, and that's no good. So we will be warning people, and banning those who don't want listen to the warning. So if you are trashing up the portal now with bad quality flash, and making fake accounts to reffer yourself extra gold, now is the time to STOP doing that.

I hope you have good judgement to what is a good flash and what is a bad one. I have submitted some flashes, and I'll admit they may be condidered low quality from a flash expert's point of view, but I did put a lot of work into them.. something simple in flash might be a week of labor for a newbie like me to figure out.. so try to judge them by the work the author put into the flash also.

Well Ive been sending my Ok movies here for a while now, Darth Sings is the only one that was a real hit lol, Im proud that is in the collections Box, Im working on a New Star Wars one at the moment, should be good when Im done. I dont see what too much of the fuss on NG is, it runs pretty well, and I only have 56K modem.
Im really growing to hate the buffer zone on the Top 50 lol, just at the Rim of 60-50 spot is hell, Ive been in the top 50 12 times....12 mins per time, its a helish place for your movie to be, but you do get lots of reviews
