dude you should check out Darrell Fitton/Bola and Telefon Tel Aviv as well
makes loads of music that they want to listen to purely for the sake of making it and doesn't really care about releasing it or not = extremely based
I didn't discover him until around the end of my late 20s and he turned me into a kid again. He's a fucking genius!
He's also clearly been an inspiration to artists like C418 when writing music for Minecraft:
I think the Aphex Twin logo kinda looks like the Half Life logo. But other than that, I could never get into this music.
Hes an absolute pioneer in electronic music. His early works left me jaw dropped, Its so impressive that he did stuff as complex as Parking Lot or Ventolin with only analog equipment. His work after Richard D. James is equally amazing. I can tell modern breakcore was influenced by alot of his tracks like Cock/ver10 or hell literally anything on Druqks. Also his ambient pieces are some of the most beautiul and haunting tracks Ive ever heard. SAW2, to me, has more tracks that accurately represent the joys and downsides of the human mind than anything ive ever seen before. All in all, I luv Afx
Not a single bad song, and his discography is super varied as well. He's also a funny guy with a lot of passion for creating music. Probably my favorite artist of all time.
Electronic music wouldn't be the same without him. I remember being around during his 2015 soundcloud dump. What an incredible couple of days those were, not knowing what he was gonna upload next, and not knowing whether it was actually him or not. I don't think he's my favourite, but he's up there.

love him
I like me some AFX from time to time, but personally, I just prefer other musicians like Autechre and Boards of Canada a bit more in terms of experimentation and conceptual music.
Otherwise, he is a pioneer in the electronic music scene and has been a huge inspiration to many in the music landscape to this day. And that damn smile...
Sic semper tyrannis.
Great artist with tons of great songs; he's the first one I think of when I hear EDM. I think he's very talented, but a lot of his songs sound very similar. Not really a surprise, though - it's like his audial signature.
I really like his solo piano tracks and albums, like "piano un10 it happened" and "aisatsana". His lesser known songs are good too, like "pissed up in se1," "Halibut Acid," "Boxing Day," and "Home Made Polysynth," to name a few of my personal favorites.
Other artists I'd recommend is Squarepusher, u-Ziq, Clark, Burial, and, if you remember this guy from YouTube, PilotRedSun. He has some great tunes out there.
the D in Richard D James stands for "Dang that is some good music"

Or maybe the D on his name is a reference to one piece :00000

This autechre video from 1996 is still cool:
Also since I don't think anyone posted the video for Come To Daddy, this Aphex Twin video from 1997 is also great. I sort of assume everyone has seen it but if you haven't:
Although i prefer squarepusher, aphex twin is very good, like, unfairly good the man just cant miss even once

This sounds like a modern day cinematic cyberpunk soundtrack. Color me impressed!

This was the video that got me into his music about 6 or 7 years ago. The thing that I really enjoy about Chris Cunningham's style for Aphex's music videos is how they are creepy (which is cool) while still obviously being made with humor. Rubber Johnny is also a classic video, which has unsettling atmosphere and cinematography, but the subject is a hydrocephalic dude in a wheel chair with a massive chode who is raving on cocaine. The monkey drummer video for mt saint michel is also really cool, although not as creepy, but still has that humor aspect since the animatronic has a drumstick for a wiener to play the hi-hat. Also can't forget Windowlicker, which sort of borrows some of its aesthetic from Come To Daddy with the RDJ faces (that is sort of his trademark I guess), but I think it trades most of the creepy factor to go all in for the comedy of the video. The buildup of the 2 dudes with shallow characters bantering off each other is funny as hell, and if I had a darker complexion I would quote that video a whole lot. His other videos are interesting too, I like the ones for On and Donkey Rhubarb is pretty funny as well with the big bear suits humping each other, but come to daddy and the other 3 I mentioned are the highlight. Overall, Aphex probably has some of my favorite music videos just on how cool they look and how funny I think they are.
For Aphex Newbs, search: "Rubber Johnny" "Windowlicker" "Monkey Drummer" "On" "Donkey Rhubarb"
(Don't want to clutter the board with several youtube embeds)
