AIM 2023 Fan Voting Thread

Hello everyone and welcome to the AIM 2023 Fan Vote thread! This is a chance for anyone who's not a judge to help determine the winner of the Fan Favourite award. I've made a few changes to how the fan voting process works, so please be sure to read over this post before you begin.

WHO CAN VOTE?

Anyone who is not a judge can vote as long as they can post in this thread.

HOW VOTING WORKS

Like the previous years, the fan vote will work on a ranking system, however, you'll be allowed to rank up to 10 entries instead of 5.

When the voting period closes, each voted entry will get a certain number of points based on its ranking, with the 1st place being awarded 10 points and descending in increments of 1, e.g. 2nd place gets 9 points, 3rd place gets 8 points, up to 10th place, which gets 1 point.

Points are totaled and the Fan Vote is awarded to the highest scoring entry that is not already in the top 20 selected by the judges. In other words, if the entry with the highest points is already going to be a winner, then I'll keep going down the list until we reach an entry that isn't one.

HOW TO VOTE

Post your top 10 entries, posted numerically from 1 to 10, with 1 being the entry you like the most. Format the votes like this:

For the above example, please use the Share link on the track you’d like to vote for and put it on its own line so that it embeds into the post. Links should look something like this: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1219314 on their own line, without any of the ?updated=23423 stuff after it.

Alternatively, you can put your votes in a numbered list as such:

1. “Title of Track 1” by Author 1
2. “Title of Track 2” by Author 2
3. “Title of Track 3” by Author 3
4. “Title of Track 4” by Author 4
5. “Title of Track 5” by Author 5

etc.

Linking to the tracks themselves in this example is appreciated, but not necessary, so long as the title and the author names are accurate. 

If you want to provide commentary on your votes, you can do so below your votes in the same post. Comments aren't necessary, but you can add them if you'd like as long as they are separate from the votes.

RULES/GUIDELINES

• Both participants and non-participants can vote. The only people on Newgrounds who cannot vote are the judges (for obvious reasons). 
• You can only vote on qualifying entries submitted in AIM 2023. Listen to all entries in the playlist here or use the master list here. 
• Voting for the same entry more than once (eg. ranking one entry you like as both 1st and 2nd) is not allowed. You can, however, vote for different entries by the same composer (for those who submitted 2 entries). 
• If you can't pick 10 entries to rank, you may rank less than 10 to a minimum of 5. Your vote will not count if you rank less than 5 entries in your post. If you rank less than 10, the highest ranked entry will get 10 points, the second-highest 9 and continues downward as such. The lowest point values will be disregarded for partial votes.
• Voting for your own entry is permitted but heavily frowned upon. 
• Keep all your votes in one post; don’t split your vote across multiple posts. 
• If you want to revise your votes, please state that you're changing your vote and repost your entire ranking with the changes included. Don't just post the changes made, otherwise your revisions will be ignored.
• Engaging in vote manipulation by creating alts or other means is not allowed and anyone caught doing so will have their votes nullified and lead to possible further action including disqualification of your entry.

VOTING PERIOD

The Fan Vote period starts now and ends after the judges have finished deliberating and the main results are ready to be released. There will be a 24 hour warning before the Fan Vote closes and the points are totaled up.

The judging period has typically lasted for at least 3-4 weeks in past AIMs, so I'm currently anticipating that you'll have until at least mid-July to get your votes in.

NOTE

In certain circumstances, it may not be possible to award the Fan Favourite vote, including (but not limited to) if:

• There is an insufficient amount of votes to determine a winner
• All the votes are for entries that are already in the top 20.

Alright I tried to listen each song from the approved submissions, and really it was hard to decide the first three cause they all got something special and different emotion and maybe I'm letting myself go by my tastes... so here's my 10 favourites from my point of view and some short personal opinion about each song under the list.

3. KERKA: Warden's Theme by Trackers
4. Tower of Tech by Irish-Soul
5. Magical rupture by NASHqp
6. Harmonic Dispersion by LordAnsino

10. Beneath by Jazzdew

Outstandings:

1. The song fits like a glove to the art, how uplifting and dynamic is and each transition surprises me. Who could say dubstep can't be emotional?
2. This one goes hard! Good interpretation of the key elements of the piece. Sounds like something out of a flash action game!
3. I like the mix with bass synths and guitars. I can totally imagine hearing this in a tv series.
4. Love the techno feel with the mysterious cinematic vibe.
5. Fantastic composition, this one goes very well with the scene.
6. Very funky and kind of cute, got me hooked for a while.
7. Fits great as a battle theme for the character.
8. very accurate the feel of dreaming about falling through clouds.
9. Another soothing drum n bass, goes pretty good with the art.
10. *Thalassophobia intensifies 100%*

Incredible track, reminds me of Barotrauma alot XDD the sound design is awesome and, just fits the art.

I love the composition of this the transition to the silent part of the song is really great idea and even tho it fits the idea of the art the name of the song itself really makes up for it XD

The rhythms, the sounds....the art. Feels in place and i love, i never listened to acid sounds much and i dont recall using them....but after i really have to explore this place a little more :D

Beautiful melodies, instruments are very comfortable to listen to.....compliments the art really well.

The song itself feels like it doesnt really fits the art imo.....but what gets me is the idea of how the sounds were made, that is such creative decision, love it.

As much as i love the intro and the melodies XD i dont like to listen to dubstep too much....but i cant say it doesnt fit the art, even tho theres raining in the art, to me it fills me with happiness cause i love rain, the sound of it while falling asleep, and yeah i would imagine something uplifting playing XDD

Dynamic piece, fits the art really well. I have yet to learn to work so much with dynamics of the sounds and overall mood.

All right; Fan Voting will close 24 hours from the time of this post. If you want to get a last-minute vote in or make any last-minute changes, now is the time to do so!

A quick note about fan votes: Winners picked by the judges will not be eligible for the Fan Vote Winner, however, if a tie still prevails, the entry with the higher distribution of votes in the highest ranking will be declared the Fan Vote Winner.

For example, if two of the highest scoring entries score 20 points, the win will be given to the entry that scores the most #1 votes or #2 votes if there's no #1 votes and soforth. This will only apply if there are ties in the highest ranking with judge winners removed.

AHH I really want to vote before the time expires. After making my ranking I'll reply with thoughtful praise of each song I am placing on this list (Although that may come much later). Overall I want to say that this year's AIM was incredible with amazing musicians and equally amazing art. It was exceedingly difficult to only fit 10 people on this list as everyone really gave it their best!
