I received some sad news this morning; Connor Steffan Blount, aka @Blounty, passed away on August 16th.

Connor was a regular on NG going all the way back to 2008, sharing art, participating in various collabs and being active in the forums. He took first place in our Super Rude Bear Art Contest and more recently contributed to the Pico-Cross Collab and Trophy Collab.

As part of getting his affairs in order, Connor’s family is closing down his social media accounts. I’ll be deleting the @Blounty account here on NG shortly but I wanted to give everyone the day to enjoy Connor’s work one more time.

Connor has left behind two children and his obituary includes a link to donate to Winston’s Wish Charity, supporting bereaved children.

Update: Connor's family will be leaving his account up here on NG. Thank you everyone for the kind words! Connor will be greatly missed here but we can still visit him in our own way.

Could you do me a favor and not delete the belthagor account if I pass away in time. I'd like to leave my legacy behind, in fact I think it's a bad move that your deleting his account, it's like you're deleting a part of his past instead of locking it, just saying.

Dang that's awful. Well rest in peace Blounty, your works look very interesting. Hold on, WHAT, you want to delete his account? Is there like a way to hide the account or lock his original username, so no one can use it?

But in other words, I think that the users should have a new feature, called the Final Will, were the users can decided on what happens to their accounts (like for an example, deleting all newsposts, locking the newsposts completely, deleting the forums posts, deleting the files or not, etc).

That's correct, we wouldn't delete an account in this situation unless at the request of the family.

RIP @Blounty. I was actually on Wayback machine last night looking at all of my previously deleted posts back in the day. Some things are best left covered up.

It's sad to see an artist go, but we have to let it go and let him be in the legacy's history.

RIP @Blounty. Even though I never spoke to you, you seemed like a really cool dude - you left this world way too soon.

Sucks that they want their son's NG account taken down, too.

If I die, I want my account to be archived with the rest of everything posted here so when they eventually shoot a hard drive with NG on it into space, aliens will think I'm mildy entertaining :-/

Uhhhhh, something something, life ends too soon and our creations and the people we touched are the only survivors, which arent even permanent in themselves, but hey.

At least we can, inspire others to, and do make cool stuff before we go :/

Much love whenever I see one of these posts, Tom. I inadvertently grieve weirdly over the Munguía eulogy news post still, because there's something f*cked when it comes to never being able to see someone make anything ever again.

And the affirmation that our accounts still reflect how we were and what we were up to when we were alive without the backdrop of twitter or youtube muddling the context up is comforting somehow.

Rest In Peace, @Blounty, man.

Damn that sucks, i used to see his instagram reels regularly so it feels unreal. He loved his kids so much.

Looking at my inbox i spoke with him a week before he passed away apparently, damn.

Met him a few times at the London meets back when those were a thing and he occasionally would hit me up for art talk.

He will be missed.

Its understandable if they want to close down the account, even if it is history

Also, question, @TomFulp.

When someone requests something like this, is the username reserved on NG for the rest of time, or can someone take the old username?

I feel like, for posterity and the community's sake, the username should remain unavailable and unattended to while erasing all it used to be.

Much like retiring a jersey or smthn bc a website-wide greiving should make us sensitive to anyone else using the name from now on.

It'd be like watching someone else wear their skin, even unintentionally.

Almost like NG needs an obituary feature for the users themselves when they've passed on but the family wants to remove their account but NG doesnt want anyone else to use the username furthermore.
