I do generally feel appreciated. He's just like that though. He's constantly pushing for greatness, and he's actually really good at finding motivators for everyone. I'm very self motivated, and I work hard whether I'm being pushed or not.
Our crew is working on a bunch of identical rooms, and we've started something of a competition for completing them, and our time goals for completion are kind of based on the completion times of these rooms by other crews. It was taking roughly 24 man hours to do one part of one of these rooms. I reduced that time down from 20, to 16, to 12, and now my most recent room was 9 hours. I blew everyone away when I hit 12 hours, but shaving an additional 3 hours off didn't seem to turn any heads and I'm really wishing somebody would just be as blown away as I was.

Do what you're paid to do. Nothing more and nothing less.
Especially if it's a job that doesn't recognize your performance that excels your coworkers. If that's the case: 1. You find better employment, or 2. You lower your performance to the minimum required.
It's a job, not a brotherhood. Don't give it your all. Your job is your life, but your life is not your job.

Layoffs are coming soon and I will be the one who still has a job in several months time. There is a valid reason to outperform everyone on a job that has a clear end date. I do get recognized as well, I was just feeling a bit bitter about one incident.
Tradesworkers are pretty tight knit and people will remember that I came in and busted ass every day. So when people are out of work during economic downturn, I will still find myself employed.
