Been thinking about making my own madness animation, have racked up a test, and currently working on sprites, for a character.

madness is pretty much the easiest form of animation you can do and it's also one of the least original.

give each character its own folder, and give each body part its own layer.

turn on onion skinning. if you don't, your animation is sure to look like shit

do not fucking tween. tweening has been done properly in the past by ergoengan but it's not easy. the traditional way to animate madness has always been fbf. you'd be wise to stick with that tradition, especially just starting out. you can tween certain things, but keep it at a minimal (and when you do tween, you better add some ease to it).

make sure you don't animate the madness guys like bricks. make sure their bodies have a lean, make sure they move fluidly, make sure they don't look like walking surf boards. you're essentially animating a human with no body joints, and no arms; this is very easy to mess up. study krinkels' movements if you want to understand how this should be done.

weapons have recoil. unless your characters are on the moon, their weapons goddamn better make their hands move.

gore is a must, and it must be done well. add blood spurts (do them yourself, don't be a lazy ass and steal other sprites), and blood should splatter onto surrounding objects when necessary; walls, floors, guns, knives, etc.

animate at a decent framerate. 33fps is the usual. 24 works, too. 12 is a no-no.

offscreen kills suck, they're lazy and boring. if you're gonna have someone kill someone else, unless they're attempting to be sneaky, have them in the same frame. don't just have someone stick a gun out of an open door and open fire. that shit sucks and i'm automatically going to 0 bomb anything that does that.

do not get fucking lazy. watch my parody series here to see what happens when someone gets lazy
