Maybe you could PM a few DnB artists for advice? Google has plenty of results for "Make good DnB" too. I've never delved into the genre myself, but from a listeners perspective I'd say weight and variety are key. The thing that makes DnB stand apart from techno and other somewhat more-monotone forms is IMO the unexpected diversity in the beat, with frequent shifts or jumps - patterns that aren't so easy to notice, and the heavier the beat sounds the better.
