i feel like... the internet might not be a reliable source of information anymore... sigh

When you trace or painting-over , you are not learning anything and you are neither creating something that people will credit you for.

When you use reference you are learning how to calculate and understand the basics.

Its really dumb to think that by doing the former you are actually hurting the original artist , unless said artist is still undiscovered. But still , all it takes to prove who is the original one is to see both pictures...The only person who is getting "hurt" is the guy who traces/paints-over because he is just wasting his time without gaining neither knowledge or respect.

Its THAT simple. The rest is bullshit.

It doesn't actually have to be for financial gain. If you post it online or otherwise share it that's enough to violate the author's (or owner's) copyright.

Looks like one of those stock photos. Add some darker colors to make it look more deep

OP: Draw something from scratch, show us what it looks like, and perhaps we'll respect you even more for it.

Full stop, end of story.

Someone should have told the OP this earlier. Darn, how long has 'reflection of a dead soul' been the Hot Topic of the Art Forum?

Well, seeing as how the thread has been inactive for over a month.....
