No in-depth look at how the scores came to be, and judge comments?
Ah well, at least I'll have time to work on other things now. Good luck everyone!

Comments are from novice round - just like last year

I give up.
don't worry, I'm giving up animation to pursue a career in training moose to play ukulele. It's really time consuming and I can no longer spend time animating.
sorry guys :(
Wow! I'm here :)
Unbelievable!!
Congrats all guys, who entered! :)
Congrats to all the winners, can't wait to see what the next theme is!
16th out of 32?? Hell yeah... I'm extremely average!!!
Does these scores carry on to later rounds? If so, I'm screwed...

For anyone interested
Even if we didn't make it, can we stillake animations based on the theme and just not enter them into the tournament or would that get people confused?
Cool! Last year I got 16th place in this open round, sooo... there's an improvement I guess. Good luck to the 32 who made it to novice. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out :)

You're free to continue making animations based on the themes, but they won't be judged in the contest. Some people may be confused, but hey there's no way I can stop you. :)

What was it about? I was pretty confused about it.
Hi everyone! Congratulations to all of the people who got through! Can I just ask, are the people who didn't get in allowed to see a breakdown of their score. I just think it would be quite useful if I knew what I did wrong and what I did correctly. Thanks!

There is no "breakdown" into categories for the Open Round, since its purpose is simply to select who will enter the tournament. I can offer some of my own pointers if you'd like, and if you contact some other judges they may be able to give their input as well.
@ Bryn - Your concept for Mythmas is a solid idea! However, the artwork needs improvement, while the animation was okay. This definitely wasn't a bad entry, but there are many highly advanced animators that entered this year to claim the top spots. Keep working at it and try again next year -- we've had many people come back to the contest every year with greater skills who progress further -- Emrox is one of them! He entered for 3 years before winning.
@ Grub517 - Your entry was better than some others, but has a lot of room for improvement as well. To start, the entry didn't fit the theme at all - it was just some people fighting in random sequences on an airship, and then harpooning birds. I saw no story or purpose to any of the actions. The animation itself was the strongest part, and the artwork was okay. The blending of 2D animation on top of the 3D ship was unique, but the 3D elements themselves were also the weakest part of the entry. I see a lot of room for potential, so keep at it and I hope to see you back next year too! :)
