Yeah, Pokemon. Not massive worlds, but they are quite lengthy games and there is quite a fair bit to do.

Metroid Fusion, Link to the Past and Final Fantasy 6 aren't exactly open world, but the latter two have large overworlds to explore. Also there was a Grand Theft Auto game for the GBA but I don't know if it was any good.

Hardly abandonware, but your not going to find a place to rent them seeing as the console released a decade ago. Your choices nowadays are bargain bins, ebay and emulation.
