They both garner a bunch of rabid and obnoxious fans. I hear talk about the NBA almost everywhere. I hear fans scream at the top of their lungs about the lakers or some crap and this can happen anywhere. American football is even worse, everyone makes a big deal out of their favorite team's losses, they're more obnoxious, and everyone practically goes crazy over the superbowl. And the superbowl, is HYPED AS FUCK.

Most sports are overrated. The level of appreciation displayed for any sport is based directly on how much money is spent on promoting them. The ones that make more money, take control.

The leagues sure as hell aren't perfect but damn those games are entertaining to alot of people so thats where the money comes from, have you seen fans for other sports like soccer? I swear I've seen more people get pissed off over that on youtube videos of riots than anything, but maybe there's statistics out there.
