Of course. I don't always use my midi keyboard to come up with melodies, and before I had it, that's the only way I made music, really.

thats dopeness
I don't own any midi devices, just click with the mouse, and use automation clips for effects and stuff.
I do sometimes write stuff on guitar before putting the notes up into a daw.
My keyboard is literally my MIDI piano - pitchbending loops, samples, XRNIs and much, much more. Its actually recommended to not use the mouse and learn all the shortcuts(all of them 8888D) in a tracker, *my DAW*, so creating songs takes less time.
But yeah, I used to use the mouse nonstop before I learned how to utilize the capabilities of a keyboard.
I used to, but it took just too long for me to get the melodies from my head to my DAW.
First i used a mouse, then the built-in keyboard and finally: My M-audio Keystation 49 (my baby).

I was much the same way, when I first started doing stuff that wasn't just guitar (I.E. When I bought FL Studio way back at version 3) I used the mouse for everything... Then I got a 3 octave synth that I used as a midi keyboard... Then I got my M-Audio Keystation 88es (My bigger baby)...
Now the only time I use the mouse to input anything is if I'm making corrections or want to add grace notes or runs that I am unable to play (Due to lack of skill unfortunately, not because I'm making melodies that are impossible).

I had been making music for two years before I realized you could just write in notes in the sequencer.

All the time
One time, for an acidcore track I made. But normally I just record guitars, bass and vocals through an interface.
I have no outboard gear except for a DJ mixer unusable for mixing tunes, and some turntables purely for sampling purposes. Aka yes I mouse everything.
I use my mouse until it comes time to record a lot of automation at once, at which point I switch over to this. It's a MIDI controller, and the million billion knobs come in handy moreso live than in the recording/writing process, but it's still so handy to have.
yeah i have no controllers so i just use my mouse
I generally always use the mouse when writing down melodies, drums, automation etc. The only time I use my midi keyboard to actually record is if it is something I want to sound loose and humanized, although I'm pretty terrible at keyboard, but I can always fix up my errors after I record.
I like using the mouse just because I can make everything nice and neat, and write the first time I get it down.

I did this for every track before I was able to buy and own my own piano keyboard. Now I have two!
If you want to hear proof of this, then open my profile - EVERY song before "Steppin' It Up" was made entirely with mouse and computer keyboard.
Everything after that is a mix of computer peripherals and piano keyboard. I've become very proficient at sequencing with just the computer peripherals so that I don't always need to use the piano and can still write very quickly.
How do you guys train your mouse to write music?
Mine just eats and tries to jump out of his cage.
I used to, but now I learned a couple of shortcuts to navigate faster through FL, so now I only use it to select a synth/sample.
With the exception of two pieces, I've composed everything on my page using a mouse and computer keyboard (two being exceptions because they were acoustically recorded). My DAW is FL Studio.
I now have an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 and am learning to use it effectively. Actually, I've had it for a while now, but it wasn't until the other week that I finally figured out how to use ASIO4ALL to kill the lag (Microsoft GS Wavetable MIDI was the culprit that prevented ASIO from working properly).
I'm pretty well all mouse use for what I do. I've gotten quite quick at it. I record and sample things with a tascam dr-07 and I do plot things in once in a while with the typing keyboard.
I'm looking into purchasing the oxygen 49 though since I, much like other artists, have a drastically different play/writing style from hands on keyboard VS mouse use.
deadMAU5.
It's ironic though, he has more equipment than all of the above users combined.

How ironic it is that you have equipment when you're a millionaire producer and an audio engineer.
It's all I use. It's less complicated and it gets the job done.

You don't know that I don't have a house full of gear
I don't have any MIDI devices (yet), so my mouse and my keyboard for the shortcuts will do.

I was referring to the fucking producer.
i don't really care what you have.
Chances are that anyone who uses Finale or Sibelius 'just' uses a mouse. I mean, you can play stuff in with a midi keyboard, but it's clunky and overly difficult to utilise, so using a mouse is just much quicker.
