Starting College at 17

Some say it's badass to start college at 17.

I'm seventeen, and a senior in high school, and will be in HS until May 27. I will not turn 18 until late September. I started senior year at 16 and started high school in general at 13, and middle school at 11--I believe like a month before I turned 12.

I'm planning to attend the junior college here at age seventeen, and will be seventeen there for a while. I will be an actual student there at age 17. If I were a student at a university, which unfortunately I did not apply for, I'd be seventeen for about two weeks seeing as they start in middle-September.

Was anyone in my shoes like this? Or even younger? I had a friend who was 12 and in high school. He's now 14, and a sophomore.

I have a September Birthday, my parents were told I could start school about two weeks late or just wait until next year and my parents had me wait until next year, this caused me to be nearly a year older then everyone in my grade. For that reason, I started College at 18 and shortly after became 19. Since I am a year older then everyone in my grade, they all started at 17 and became 18 shortly after, or had just recently become 18.

I would have been in the same boat as you being one of the youngest in my grade had I not waited a year to start school. It just doesn't seem like that much of a rarity to me.

I was technically 17 when I started, but not for very long. On the other hand, my junior college had a program for high school juniors and seniors to enroll in college courses and get a head start. (It made the search for women much more difficult.) So I don't see anything unusual about it; honestly, if I'd been told community college wasn't any tougher than high school I would have enrolled in that program.

maybe there's a difference in terms of length and difficulty in the syllabuses. more than 95% of people here start college at the age of 19-20 in my area. it is very uncommon to graduate from high school before the age of 19 (unless you manage to obtain at least 6 distinctions in cerifificate level examintion and are allowed to enroll in university programs one year eariler).

i have heard of a person who started college education at 18. but he has IQ>140 and has gotten straight A's in public exam.

I went in at 18, but only because I was a summer birthday. There were plenty of college students who were 17 up until November who just barely made the cut for their high school. It's not a big deal at all, but if you just turned 17 and you're going in to college, then I feel quite bad for you. You're missing out on the bar/club life. You have to get a fake idea that just says you're 18, and that sucks.

I was pretty much 17 through all of my first year at university. I was only 18 for the final few months. I was definitely in the minority though. There weren't many people at all who were under 18.
