I have so many favorites it's really hard to chose, but one certainly deserves a place here:

I'll plump for the credits theme from Ocarina of Time. It stirs up a hectic combination of nostalgia and emotion for me. It also shows you really don't need the Planet Earth First Orchestra to make great soundtracks.
i dunno. it's a tie really, this one is nostalgic to me, i remember i would just wander around so i can listen to the song a little bit longer.
but then againgreat fairy fountain and preperations for battle had the same effect on me. always stick around to listen to the song.
So yeah, three way tie since they are the only songs in a video game to ever make me do that.
I'm just a dreamer.
Well, it's hard for me to choose myself. I'm a sucker for final boss themes that are orchestrated, but there are many others that are my personal favorites that make it hard to choose that "best VG song".

I'm gonna be grossly unoriginal and say the Prelude from Final Fantasy. Why? Because of its simplicity. It is such a simple composition, and yet it touches you in a profound way, and stays with you long after everything's gone silent.

I'da Call You Woody, Joe - The Gaslight Anthem, from Skate 2 would be definitely one of my favorites.

Tough choice.
Modern games it's a toss up between Battlefield: Bad Companys Piano theme (mainly because it is something unique) and the Team Fortress 2 main theme (You can't look me in the eye and say it isn't good)
As for more older games it's a choice between Kirby's Green Greens and of course the almighty Tetris theme.
The best video game track is definatly any song from castle crashers. the music is so damn good it fits the game very well too

For me, it has definitely got to be the Zelda soundtrack just listen to the Song of Healing and you'll just fall in love with it.
Pokemon Gold and Silver has some absolutely wonderful music and it's not completely just because of nostalgia, it's just excellent music in general. Just listen to this little remix
Zelda has amazing songs, but Silent Hill probably has better. The main theme to SH, almost anything from SH2, and lots of the songs from later SH's are all great.

Opening intro music to Kingdom Hearts 2
I'm super into the NES Castlevania stuff, those sound tracks pretty much shaped the kind of music I listen to today. Bloody Tears is so freaking epic, I could listen to that track for hours. Anybody ever heard of Virt...he does amazing 8bit stuff, reminds me a lot of the NES era Konami stuff.
Glad to see people appreciate Bloody Tears, awesome track.
One of my favourites is definitely the Dead Sea from Chrono Cross.
Oh, and the Boss Battle theme from SMT:Nocturne. Great stuff.
