I just bought half life counter strike. I have it installed on my computer, can play a LAN game by myself and did the training program, but I cant join in on any interent games. When I pick one it says something about them using a different protocol and I cant connect. I run the auto updater and it says my interenet connection is invalid. Help please.

If you bought the game you probably need to upgrade it first. Protocol problems mean you are not upgraded to what the servers are using now. Go to http://www.counter-strike.net/ to get the latest version cs1.6 with Steam.
However, most people think 1.6 sucks. if you are one of them and you bought cs retail version 1.004 then you can go to http://www.counter-strike.net/retail_upgrade.html and upgrade to CS 1.5.
Most servers are still compatible with 1.5 because so many people hated 1.6
