Hey guys, I'm posting off of a friends computer right now, so I'm not quite back yet. On the 27th, I will be getting a new computer, and will bring new ideas and the like to the crew. Until then, just continue to donate rice, and have fun with it.

Response to Free Rice Crew 2010-08-28 02:12:52

Ok guys, I've been back awhile and I would like to get this crew started again! I was thinking of some ideas, and I think it would be cool to have things you could put in your sig or profile that state a milestone or something in particular you did contributing to the crew or the Free Rice site. I don't have any art skills or sig making skills, but if someone in the crew could make them, I would appreciate it. I will make an updated list next sunday, as I haven't been back too long.

That will give me nightmares.

Second "week"

thenewbies- 3,830
Kazumazkan- 1,000
Cast- 4,500
giveupyourwaffles- 500

About this list:

I based it on the time from when I went offline up to now. Here are your totals. As for myself, I plan to get a large amount this week to make up for what I haven't done.

Response to Free Rice Crew 2010-09-06 05:04:57

OK. OK. Freerice is important. I'm not going to get into your comparative stats etc. but I pormised to do some at least once a month - its good for me and them, I suppose.

Also, keep in mind that Freerice actually has an option to save the amount of rice when you leave, so if you had 1000 grains of rice, you can visit Freerice again and you'll start with 1000 instead of 0. Should everyone just set it to remember or reset every game?

No one has to reset their totals. My totals reset usually because I clear cookies, but this time I actually ended up getting a whole new computer, so obviously my totals aren't saved.

As for the stats, I do them weekly. If you want to see how many you have in total, I can start keeping track of that now too, or you can just keep track of it yourself.

I don't want to join anything. I don't feel the need to make stats, However, I do get into Freerice sometimes, especially when my girlfriend and I are looking for something to do on the internet together. Often we compete to see who can get furthest before getting a word wrong- we start at level 40 and go up to around 43-47. Occasionally one of us get the humiliation of getting the first word wrong :(

Tonight after competing for a while we decided to work together- on the sole condition that she wouldn't get angry with me if I suggested a wrong answer! We did the same thing, going up until we got one wrong and got slightly further.

We decided that next time we will keep going when we get one wrong and try to make it all the way to 60, which I have done in the past.

How many grains of rice does it take to feed someone?

Depends, count your rice before you eat it next time.

According to this article, a billion grains of rice will feed 50,000 people for a day. So, about 20,000 grains per person per day. That's about 2,000 correct vocab words.

Why couldn't it have been potatoes?

Because potatoes cost more and are rich in starch, which leads to kwashiorkor in the long term...also, it will be the equivalent of ~2400 vocab words now.
Why not oranges, bananas or health supplements?

Because rice is a lot cheaper to produce and stuff.

I find this interesting. I'd never heard of this before. I'm answering questions now, and I've worked up to 300 grains of rice.

I'm letting this go for now, but this is the second or third time you have bumped this club after years of inactivity with nothing really new to add. Do not do it again or you will be banned and the club will be locked once and for all.

Glad you started playing again. I'm not 100% sure what to do with this club or if I should even run it, but when I looked through the forums with the search terms 'free rice,' and 'rice,' the only reference I found to it on the first several pages was this thread.

I would like this site to gain more awareness and to be honest if I can get even a few more people to play it's worth advertising.
