Strange that this crazy old topic got dragged back from the depths.
I would say there is a difference in what happened to me, and what you seem to be sharing.

My game wasn't public at the time. So it was literally stolen out from under me, and shared around so that the stolen copy without my name attached to it, was the first one available anywhere online.

Newgrounds is special in that it lets you upload your own work. Most Flash portals do dig up games and upload them for you (and at least they provided a link back to your Newgrounds profile for credit).
The best thing you can do for yourself is integrate the Newgrounds API. Then you get ad revenue even when your game is uploaded to random sites. And, if you are really against your work being on a specific site, you can block that URL so the game no longer works on their site specifically.

Just wanted to point out that this is a 10 year old post.

Then we have a problem.

Copyright happens at creation. The only thing you have to worry about is proving you own it. I'd start collecting all the information on development you have. If you used Version Control, that can be a huge help. But that's only important if it actually goes to court.

Go after the person that stole it, but also send letters to the sites. If you send a professional Cease-and-desist letter most places will remove the stolen content fast. Don't be threatening, just be courteous and professional. You're excercising your rights as the owner of the game and most places don't want stolen content on their site.

Here's a website with free templates for the letter http://templatelab.com/cease-and-desist/

good luck

[edit] Just realized the thread I was reading is ancient lol D:

True, it is a Necromeister thread, but it's very relevant now, in fact even more so perhaps with the way it's going.

looking back at this, my games were not really stolen. the site just linked to the games on newgrounds.

but now i have discovered that some sites TOTALLY stole my games. no credit, no links.

the sites are qgames and arcadespot.

i'm not super upset about it, i just find it kinda funny.

Oh look, there are my games over there, too:

I remember that "It came from outside" was uploaded on another site just a few days it got frontpaged... My best guess is that these sites take a stroll on NG and take everything they can get their hands on without asking.

I don't think this can be called "stealing" in the meaning of the first comment of this thread, though. They've been just uploaded without permission.

yeah, it sucks that these sites snatch up our games without even giving credit. i don't really mind it, but it would be better if the sites gave proper credit.

well, if you like developing, have your own, I mean naming a studio, for yourself..

and create a demo, for your game, and publish it online, yourself.. okay.. and that's when you're talking about,

that's should be, a fully fun, online game, sung said, but you're talking about, producing and selling, the full version of this cool game, and they know it's yours, but uhm....

protecting property from game publishers? auh... hard to do.. unless you want to get famous with smaller games

Ambrosia is nicer to talk to. they don't steal, I think it's JORDAN

This site helped me put things into perspective. I now hate all the random gaming websites.
