The most important point of this post: IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO SEE A FLASH SUBMISSION, PLEASE DO NOT VOTE ON IT.
Ok... Let me quickly summarize what has been going on. A malicious Flash submission had managed to scramble up a bunch of user accounts. It did this by posting a form command to our server, and the server responded to it as if it was an internal communication. We THOUGHT this could not happen, because the Flash submissions were hosted from "uploads.newgrounds.com", a unique URL from "newgrounds.com" - however, it turns out the subdomain was treated as an internal connection with permission to give instructions, and we weren't safe after all.
To solve this problem, we have moved all of the Flash content to a completely unique domain name. This way, if a Flash movie tries to submit a request to our server, it is turned away.
The change required making a DNS update to the new domain name - something which takes up to 72 hours to propagate world-wide. As a result, some of our users can currently view Flash submissions, while others can't. For example, Wade is now able to view Flash submissions on his cablemodem service, whereas my DSL has not yet updated the DNS and I am unable to view submissions (yes, this is ironic considering I just switched to get away from Comcast).
DNS = Domain Name Server. When you type "newgrounds.com" in your browser, the DNS info allows your provider to find our servers here in Philly. If we move our servers elsewhere, we change the DNS, so your provider can find us at our new location.
Because no one could view submissions after the change, James disabled the ability to vote on submissions. We are now re-activating the vote feature, since the site is working for a lot of users at the moment. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO SEE A FLASH SUBMISSION, PLEASE DO NOT VOTE ON IT.
