Youtube comment disabling

Is it just me or is that feature only used by douchebags?
The only times you see people disable comments are:

- The video is some kind of screamer
- The video is not what it pretends to be ( hey look at this hot babe OOPS LOL IT WAS AN ELEPHANT TAKING A SHIT LOLOL THANKS FOR WATCHING! )
- Some conspiracy nut who doesn't want anyone to challenge his bogus claims
- Emotionally fragile simpletons
- People with strong political allegiances who want to silence all opposition.

Seriously, a terrible feature. I make it a habit to never watch any video that has comments disabled, and you should do the same.

I think it's fine for official-type youtube uses, like politician submitting speeches and ads and other campaign material, or when tv stations, movie studios, and whatnot submit shows/movies. They don't need public response, they're out there to promote themselves. Having someone say "omg, that is so gay" doesn't help their viral advertising efforts. With legit political videos, it usually just comes down to bunk terrorism or abortion concerns or illegal war rhetoric. If having comments doesn't actively contribute to the purpose of the video, then they don't need to be there.

lol, I hate it when people dissable comments. And its normally on all the videos you would comment on. Some of them they just dissable comments for no reason, Like the other day I was looking for a rocket motor tutorial, and I wanted to ask how much potasium nitrate to use. I think thats more annoying than dissabling comments on screamers etc. I think its because youtubers are scared the coments might make them cry.

I've also seen people disable comments on a video that doesn't actually belong to them. They think it makes it harder for people to find it and then have it taken off. I don't know, maybe it does help, I'm no expert on methods of avoiding the copyright laws on YouTube. Someone would have to say.

Yeah, I agree with your comments, as well as it being used on videos that are likely to include lots of idiots trolling one another (because it all matters what people's ethnicity, sexuality or gender et al are, right?).

It could also be they're getting a lot of retards posting on their videos. But chances are, it's because it's a crap video anyway and it's their own fault.

At least it's a more honest way of censorship than allowing "approved" comments only, which makes it look like everyone agrees with you, while you discretely delete the vast majority of comments. I wonder when YouTube is going to introduce "approved ratings": instead of just enabling or disabling your rating bar, you could choose which ratings you want to take effect. You could dismiss all ratings your video receives, except 5-star ratings.

I'd have to agree. If I follow a link to a video and see comments disabled, I immediately close that shit. I have never EVER seen a video worth anything that had comments disabled. If the video poster can't handle what people have to say about their video they shouldn't post it.
