Fuck, I'm just glad I don't write classical music. Seriously, what kind of innovation can you do when your composing with a limited selection of instruments for a genre that's been around for hundreds of years?

Very Nice.

Create fusions or just don't abide to rules. I never really understood the point of HAVING to abide to genre restrictions when you could always just craft what you believe works and is enjoyable. How do you think all these sub-genres ever formed? :P

Are you serious? The fact that its been around for hundreds of years makes it even more of a challenge to create something which is new and original. I think you should be asking yourself more on the lines: How does a genre which has been around for only a few years, like techno, have so many songs which sound the same?

I've listened to a lot of dance music though, and I think there is a lot of variation between most tracks. But if I listen to classical music, it all sounds the same to me. Is all classical music the same? No, but I don't listen to it so I don't notice all the details.

What's this instrument?

I kinda need help from the classical artists here, because I need to know what this instrument is (starts at 6:40, ends at 6:47). Is it a piccolo, perhaps?

Sounds like it's maybe a piccolo. That's my best guess anyways.

Yup that's definitely a piccolo or a flute.

Ok cool :) Yeah I thought it was a flute at first too but then I figured it's range wouldn't be big enough to get it to sound that high

Hahaha, the triple post is definitely alright imo. Especially if you learn something new, cool, exciting, and interesting. Thanks for the info/correction Chron.

God dammit, I'm making the coolest fuckin' industrial metal song for the NAP. The problem is that I like it so much, I want people to hear what I have so far, but only people in the contest can hear it. Saaaaaaaaaaaaaad faaaaacce.

I know because I play one ;) Each penny whistle has about 3 different octaves and can go very very high..

Crap you're right. I thought for a second that it did sound a bit too whistley, almost like a cross between a flute and a recorder. The penny whistle didn't come to mind tho >.<

And eh, how much difference is there between a piccolo and a penny whistle? I gotta know because I have to compose a piece for a brass band and I just WANNA use that instrument, and the brass band does have a piccolo but no penny whistle...

Online Music Stores

I always liked "Thomann" for their good (low) prices, high quality and fast delivery. Today I checked some products and found something interesting:
THON JACKY CASE
I especially like the part with "ideal for all musicans". Somehow it's clear for them what all musicians do.

Its a recorder i think actually. If you listen to the song from "Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles" they use something that sounds a lot like the instrument in that song. And i believe it was a recorder.

Probably because you're used to hearing little children who suck at it play it. In the right hands you wouldn't even know it was a recorder.

That and i listened to the song again and it's to high for a recorder, but doesn't really sound like a piccolo, but my only reference is from Battle Hymn Of the Republic, to which that part makes my ears cry in pain

Chron was definitely right on this one.

BTW, tin whistles are very easy to learn, cheap, fun and sound awesome. Go and get one.

Also, I don't think dance music would work at 232 bpm :P

if it's dance music then one song doesn't ever need to be more than maybe 3 or 4 minutes and intro/outro imo

Lol about what, the fact that its not a recorder or that recorders can't be pretty or good sounding?
