This is the 6th song in my album, and it represents Thunder. I really enjoyed making this one, I've literally never had such a good workflow before. This is also my track for NGUAC :]

I hope you like it! :]

VIP - I made a brand new verse that sounds way more fitting to the track. I also recorded new vocals because they sounded very similar to the ones in Vigorous. I made the drop clearer too, and I shortened the song because it used to be 6 minutes long. I hope you like this new version :]

-Nguac Review-

Composition:
I like the section at 1:42. It's nice ear candy.

Many of the sound effects feel arbitrary; they don't evoke imagery of a certain place or any emotions. The vocals don't get me excited - they're actually pretty distracting because I have to pay close attention to understand the words, and the tone is too neutral.

The strings and piano writing is extremely basic, and there's no legato or dynamic control. It's important to consider dynamics and voice leading to enhance realism, and more importantly, emotion.

The section at 3:00 has an interesting rhythmic change, but the main theme is so simple that I wish for something else at this point.

After that section, much of the rest of the song feels like it's unnecessary repetition. 4 minutes is more than enough, but the song is nearly 6 minutes without enough content variation to justify it.

Overall, the song sounds like you stitched together a variety of generic electronic music elements without a plan for creating a cohesive, meaningful experience. I don't sense a purpose behind the song, such as telling a story, evoking certain emotions, encouraging people to dance, etc.

Composition Score:
1.6/3

Production:

There's a lot of great sound design here, particularity during the drops.

I think reverb has been used poorly across the board. It's significantly reducing clarity, creating mud, and producing a detached high-end reverb sound that doesn't add any value.

If you're using free reverbs, I suggest you consider investing in a good one. That won't solve all the problems, but it can potentially provide a drastic improvement in sound quality.

The mix sounds good during the 1:42 section.

Production Score:
2/3

Emotion Score:
1/3

I realize this review is more of an explanation of my score rather than helpful feedback, but we make very different types of music so it's difficult for me to help you further. I hope you find some value from my review nonetheless.

Uh yeah thanks... I’m still mad and sad, but in a few days It’ll be over and I’ll find this really helpful. But rn I’m pissed ngl, I’m sorry

Pretty darn good intro to start off with here, but I do have one pretty early piece of critique. The sub is pretty loud at :39. Take a look at your waveform for example, its a solid block. Not always a bad thing but when i see it, it scares me. The sub is very low, so it doesnt conflict with the other voices, but the track is clipping, so all the voices become quiet. I think you have a kick in there too and its pretty quiet. A lot of people put a really really low sub, and then turn it up until they're speakers can play them or they can hear them in their headphones. a really really good thing to do is see if you can listen to your song on a nother system, maybe a sub heavy system or headphones, and then you might say OH wow yes my sub is there. one thing i like to do when i put sub in the 25hz-40hz spectrums, is put just a teeeny bit of distortion on my sub, just to create some extra harmonics so that it can be heard a bit easier, but only a tiny bit, and then my compression after. other than that a pretty cool intro!

I love the effect on the voice! Very cool, there seems to be a weird phasing effect that happens on some vocals, but not a huge complaint.

Good lead in to the drop!

See this drop is pretty well mixed! Albeit with a tiny bit of clipping here and there. There might be a little bit too much reverb on your sub voice, and a LOT of stereo effects going on with it too, taking away from its clarity, there's overall a lot of reverb on this drop too, maybe tighten up your reverb frequencies, move taht low band up to 250hz, and the high band down, low the decay bit. Maybe more than a bit. Over all, great sidechain compression on the kick and snare, they cut through the mix beautifully, great layering on your snare, I can barely hear the hi hats but i know theyre there, sometimes i like it that way so this isnt really a complaint, lots of high end stuff with your bass voices.

As for the over all feeling and execution of the drop, I think it just needs to be way clearer. I can hear whats going on but i want it to be crisp and i think its the reverb, maybe the reverb thats getting in the way of that here.

Overall great piece! I didnt score this one as I was a judge for the underdogs, but this was a great submission!

Benji-G responds:

Thank you so much for the insanely detailed feedback! I highly appreciate it! I will take these things in to consideration for next time :]

I gotta say this is one of the best dubstep songs I've ever heard on NG. What do you use for your bass drops?

EDIT: There's some pretty nasty clipping going on with the new vocals, and they're a little quiet. Also the "do you really think you have what it takes?" sounds VERY cheesy.

Benji-G responds:

Thank you so much!! All of the basses in this song are made by myself in serum :]

EDIT: Haha yeah, I agree with you ngl. It does sound cheesy af, but I just didn’t want that similar vocals to Vigorous, even tho it sounded better before.

What is the song id and how do i find it
