a plaintive cry from space

This one was originally written on 5 April, the 5th day of the spring run of 21 Days of VGM this year. The prompt was "Drone," which made it quite simple for me as tonic pedal points are quite enjoyable for me to write.

There seems to be a twinge of sadness that comes into my heart every time I hear this again and again, and so I gave it the title that it has now, a plaintive cry from space, because when it repeats, it seems to be pleading for someone in the vast dark void to pick up the message, to listen... and no one seems to be out there, but still, the entity putting out this transmission sings in hope...

You can feel the emotion and mind wandering with this one. The soft intro was delicate and then it begins to speak at 0:05. The title is succinct, and well-named for the experience you achieve. There is enough instrumentation to provide the depth while also allowing for the quieter parts to speak for themselves.

Pikmin vibes

This is really pretty. My only complaint is that I wish it was fleshed out into a full track. There are a lot of jewels to mine from those melodies you've introduced. You could do a lot with this! Nice work.

Troisnyx responds:

Thanks for the kind words. It is my hope that one day, I may extend these short fragments. 💖

21 Days of VGM emphasised writing a few bars a day based on different prompts, hence why most of my tracks during that period barely scratched a minute, often lasting under a minute. I only remember two of the tracks from that marathon that I've posted here so far that go over it: Dies Irae I and mantle of blue.

You make such amazing music, this is wonderful. So melancholy but at the same time so pleasant to listen to <3

Looking at this from more of a design perspective, it sounds like it could slot right into the first Metroid Prime OST as a zone ambient piece. The space whistle-like lead (plus how it's notated), the textured atmosphere and the bleep/blips alternating between their duties as a background aid and the more present short pulses all add up to the incredibly similar vibes that are present throughout several parts of that OST.

5'd and fav'd

Troisnyx responds:

Funny you mention Metroid Prime, that series' OST is excellent and I've taken a few musical cues from it. 😮 Also Ar tonelico, the more synth-heavy elements of it, as well as synth-heavy doujin works of it.

You read my musical influences pretty well, I'm flattered.
