Zelazon's NGADM Round 3 Review

I really loved what you did with this song. I'm experience with a lot of the Splatoon song (my favorite being DJ Octavio (Final Battle)), so I enjoyed that you could make an original experience based on the style of music. That being said, I want to get into some the issue with the mixing; the bass, melody, and things going on in the background aren't as clear as they should be and I have a hard time differentiating between what the balancing should be with this song.

Other than the mixing issue, I do love the direction you went with the melody and the vocals (if you can call those that haha), is an excellent touch to the song. When I saw the lyrics, I was expecting something random, but when I actually heard them, I actually died lol. Overall, you did great work with this, and it does go to show how you made it so far in the contest.

Great work!

I like the goofy sound effects and lively, broadway-like instrumental tracks. The way the vocals were mixed is a bit bizarre. They sound really thin, high-pitched, and over-processed. It’s really hard to make out the lyrics, but maybe that’s the point given the author’s description (?). I like the solos at :45. The mix is otherwise good here, but I wish the drums came through a little stronger. I even think I hear a bit of Johnfn influence at around 1:15 with the synth vibrato. The kazoo solo lived up to expectations, and cemented the goofy, blissful tone of the piece quite well. I like how lively the drums are here, even if you overused the crashes after a while. The modulation at the end worked well enough to tie things together, although I might’ve liked to see a little more development in the composition after a relatively bland bridge at 1:55. Overall, great job with the sound design, melodies, and progression of this one. You definitely took some risks with the flavor and texture of the piece, but by the end I’m (mostly) on board. The vocals might still be a bit much for me. Keep at it, LunacyEcho! ^^

Never played Splatoon, but this is a fun track! Just all around fun to listen to!

LunacyEcho responds:

glad you liked it! I'd totally recommend it, but I'm happy you enjoyed it for reasons beyond nostalgia or vibe-ness heh

OMG WHAT EVEN the kazoo solo was oddly rad and swag wtf how do you even make a kazoo smooth. You unleashed the true power of the magical instrument that
just works with no questions asked.
Also top tier description.
Oh yeah this is some quality punk.
Please for the LOVE OF GOD, release the unedited lyrics so the world collapses in laughter

LunacyEcho responds:
