Electro song inspired by late 80's early 90's rock. And influences of some good old fashioned baroque.

Since I'm leaving for holiday in an hour I had to multitask.

I made this song in about 20 hours (taking some brief pauses reflect on what I made, and even get a bit to eat or something), from the moment I heard I made it into round 1 of the audio deathmatch 2019, until now, less than an hour before I leave for holiday.

Secondly, it's robot day today. I originally didn't make it past the audition stage of the ngadm this year, so I didn't think I'd have to make this song now. I thought I would have time to create a song for robot day, so I said I would. Because I had no choice but to start and finish this song today anyway I decided to make it robot themed. I don't know if I'm allowed to submit one song for 2 things. To make it clear, this is for the NGADM2019 first, but happens to be robot themed because it's Robotday2019 after all.

Thirdly, I'm working on a side scroller shoot em up game. We're starting on the second level first which is in an asteroid belt. It has a boss called JUGGERNAUT who's a robot from another planet. His "element' is rock, so that's why his level should have a rock music inspired track. The overall genre of the songs in the game is electro. A bit of a synthwave style, but with plenty of throwbacks to other genres from the 80's and early 90's.

Have to run. See you later.

Edit September-21st-2019: Made the first version of the song in just one day (20 hours). I felt it was rushed, so after my holiday I revisited the song. Didn't change too much though. Just about 6 or so hours of tweaking. It's mastered slightly louder and with slightly less deep end cut of. The guitar solo is less sharp but more defined. During the "funky" parts I don't use the deep drum computer toms anymore. Added a deep side chained 909 kick with a sharp attack to the funky parts, to give it more punch. Added a Commodore VIC-20 pulse-wave to the funky parts and the later choruses. Removed the drum fills from the earlier choruses. Added a synth pad to the piano segment. Removed the echo from the Atari lead synth, but instead doubled it, a fraction out of sync (like a singular echo). Tweaked some notes, volumes, panning, etc. Don't even remember all I've done.

great track. love how the drums are moving, and all the timbres fit together well. reminds me much of daft punk. it does, however, seem like its playing real far away in a garage too often. a great effect, but the upfront moments could use quite a touch more lows and highs, for the sake of fidelity. really, for the sake of contrasting those banging moments against the more relaxed sections. it is highly cohesive, all the sounds really working in the same space. but, you really may want to bring that guitar out in particular into a higher fidelity. and then make it all bounce.

at 4:45, it's pulled off excellently. that switch from quiet and confined to open and explosive, i would like more.

I really like the ominous atmosphere at the beginning and the gritty edge to the texture. The piece is a little slow to develop at first, and I found it a bit disorienting when the atmosphere completely fades away at around :32. The distorted guitars are nice, but the texture at :48 sounds rather indistinct and bass-heavy. The sound design is enjoyable, but the texture could be more well-balanced to include more treble-range instruments. That said, the mix holds up pretty well in spite of the bottom-heavy frequency balance. The transition back to the murky atmosphere at 2:39 is rather sudden, though, and in general I think you could’ve done a lot more with this piece harmonically. The distorted synth at 3:12 sounds really nice. It sounds forlorn and yet also relaxed in a state of complete acceptance. You also do a good job of integrating the atmospheric flair with the guitars at 3:42. I think that section is still pretty repetitive, and lacks a lot of dynamic melodic content. I also think the piece has a lot of reverb and some relatively weak drums that could use sharpening in the mix. Overall, my favorite elements of the piece are the sound design and atmosphere. I think the composition and, to a lesser extent, mixing, could use some more polish, though. Either way, this is a fun, catchy, and unique piece. Keep at it, SourJovis! ^_^

Thank you for the review. I made some changes since the first upload based on your suggestions. I didn't change as much as I thought I would, because I wanted to stick to the minimalist style I had in mind, so I don't know if you like it better this way. See "Edit September-21st-2019" for more details about what I've changed.

Great atmosphere. Great progression.
Good job with combining so many requirements in one song, heh.

Nicee! The overdriven guitar licks and poppy bass really drive the piece. that synth at 3:02 really breaks everything up really nicely for that harder final chorus good stuff!

I dig it. Reminds of those funky space games from the 90s..great atmosphere. good luck on the game too, sounds really cool, keep us posted posted
