NGUAC Final Round Submission

Foreword - First of all I'd just like to thank the judges for running these competitions - It's provided me a lot of drive that I've been missing recently and empowered me as a musician to produce music with purpose again. Secondly, I can't believe I've made it to the final round - I've been on the site less than 2 months and I'm here. What a community.

As you will probably hear, I had a tonne of fun with this one! As it's the final round, I stepped out of my comfort zone to find my boundaries and push my creative capacity. It was a struggle! But this resulting piece of music lies in a place I've never even attempted to set foot in before, and I've developed as an artist because of it.

The goal was to make something that was worth listening to the whole thing for and projected a strong sense of emotion and feeling as opposed to my previous uploads which are solely club / radio-oriented.

The vast majority of sound design was done by yours truly! Fingers crossed the hours spent automating every parameter imaginable have paid off haha.

Incredibly proud of this short piece, and I truly hope that's communicated through the audio.

(it's 01:42am - time to sleeeeeeep)

Enjoy,

I like the spacey vibe at the beginning and the phasing synths (at least I’m pretty sure it’s a phasing effect). There’s a nice sense of climax into :36, and the burst of intensity at :57 has a really cathartic vibe. I think the mix could be a bit cleaner at :57, though - the reverb was a tad excessive and the kick didn’t come through as prominently as I wanted it to. I like the vocals there, even if the lyrics were a little cliche. The delay effects starting at 1:37 were a bit overdone, and I would’ve liked to see you flesh out the composition of the piece a bit more. The one-climax model is hard to pull off, and this is no exception. You’ve done a great job of constructing the atmosphere and flow of this piece, but I think you need some more structuring to maximize the impact of the emotional qualities here. Overall, this piece shows a lot of potential given the rich atmosphere and sound design, but I’m left feeling a little underwhelmed by the composition. Regardless, it’s been a pleasure to listen to your tracks over the course of these last couple months, and best of luck with your future projects, JRTH! ^_^

Honestly, how did this not even get top three? This is so bloody good!

This track is pure awesomness and I loved every second of it, good job

Ooooh, what is this feeling? It is tangible, I can hold it, but I can't define it yet... that build sure helps. Good use of vocodex, solid lead in and break beat! But this feeling, what is it? It feels like I may have lost something that was once dear to me. Oh my, that bass. It makes me sad as I embrace myself, alone, and dancing in the dark... are these tears? Is my face wet or is there something in here with me? Crying for me? Am I awake?

Thank you for this, JRTH. I needed a good cry.

JRTH responds:

Hahaha mission accomplished - Happy to hear I made you feel something.

man, you sure are something
