This is the track which I prepared in case I get to fill in one of the spots for the NGADM 2019 event's 1st groups stage. It is actually planned to be a loop that plays as bgm, "re-starting" at about 3:06. Hopefully, I get to show it off a little. ^_^

Hmm, where to start. Initially I planned to come up with a track that could be used as bgm for a boss fight, but the longer I played with the melody, the more it became obvious to me that it would fit a stage much more. So I tuned down the bpm a notch from my usual +160 compositions and this is the result.
Originally I wanted to use more different instruments, but eventually decided against it because the melodies overlapped too much. Also, I used the internal FL equalizer this time. I'm very unexperienced with its functions, but a bit of tinkering later I was satisfied with the sound. My favourite part of the piece is the last one before it transfers back to the loop, starting at about 2:12. I just LOVE having a fast paced piano in the background for an increased tempo feeling.

This theme, as most of my compositions, is heavily inspired by the Touhou project games, a bullet hell game series from Japan. Some of the instruments are the sole reason why I started composing in the first place. ♥
Because of that, it will probalby sound very "restless" to a lot of listeners who are not really into this kind of genre. This restless/hectic feeling is intentional, though.

Enjoy! ♪

I like the blissful mood at the beginning and the video game flavor. The brass instruments sound pretty fake, though, and at times I wanted the drums to be stronger in the mix. The piece has a pretty constant sense of energy and drive, and could use some more structural variety in the form of an atmospheric section or extended breakdown. I like the melodic content here, although sometimes the overarching compositional content feels a bit directionless, with each melodic phrase just sort of bleeding into the next. I also would’ve liked to hear a more creative ending than a fade-out, even if the content is meant to loop in-game. Overall, I like the mood, harmonic content, and rich texture of the piece. I think the arrangement and the sound design could use a tad more work, though. Keep at it, Pheanir! :)

Pheanir responds:

Yeah, having the drums at just the right amount of "oomph" is always a problem for me; I experienced it either to be too much or too less. Since I cannot use a lot of the functions FL Studio has to offer, I have to improvise a lot in my compositions with how I do stuff.
And I totally get you, the missing direction is a good reflection of my current mood concerning composing. It's kinda hard to "justify". :/
I'm just really glad that you give me such constructive feedback. Thank you really much! ♥

super well-composed stuff! can definitely hear big touhou influence in this one, and it's got such a great mood and even though the sounds here aren't of the highest quality, they fit the style of the song super well imo

definitely didn't expect to hear something like this when going through ngadm tracks this year. good job and good luck!

would ott some stuff or something idk. nice comp tho, you just have to improve your mixing

It's lovely. <3
Always a great composition.
