ClockbeatAdelony87 responds:

Thank you! I might make another audio for Kamikaye someday, he is my favorite artist on all of Newgrounds. I have improved a lot in mixing and mastering since I made this (it has been almost a year), so if I had the time I would definitely redo this track because I liked the composition I did for this :)
Thanks for the review!

Official AIM Review!

I find myself agreeing a lot with what has already been stated in TL's previous review. Although, I did like the slow sweeping intro, the piece as a whole is suuuuuper 'verbed up, kinda muddy as a result.

00:50 sounds like a few tracks may have been mixed too loudly and are distorting.

You've got a nice sound palette but on your chorus, drums are buried under not just your bass but your background synths.

However safe your chord progression may be, I do feel like you've used it to your advantage. Structure of the song is good, and your transitions are fairly solid. I would have liked a slight variation on your second bridge. It almost sounded like a copy-pasta. Overall, it sounds like you've grasped the basics of good song-writing. For sure take some time to look at some mixing/mastering tutorials for your favorite genres, tips and tricks with your favorite synths, and you'll have the secret sauce to spice things up for your upcoming albums.

Thanks for turning out to this year's AIM competition!

---Official AIM review---

I like the smooth pads at the beginning and the sense of climax into :21. I think you went a little overboard with the reverb at :21 - some of the notes sound a little indistinct as a result. I thought the drums could’ve come through the mix a lot clearer, too. The piece has a very repetitive chord progression, and all of the other harmonic elements, including the “melody” at :50 (which is really just an square, arpeggiated riff) are heavily grounded in those chords with little harmonic variety. The drums get especially lost in the mix during the build-ups (listen at around 1:50), and I think scaling back the reverb and being more careful with the equalization would be a great way of addressing that. As I see it, the first instance of memorable melodic content of the piece is at 1:57. You did a good job of facilitating the dynamism and directionality of the piece in that regard, but I still think the composition is lacking creativity and originality. The mellow coda at 2:20 was a nice touch, though. The structure and transitions are solid for the most part. It’s just that, harmonically, the piece is a little underwhelming, and betrays a lack of complexity. Overall, it’s a catchy and cute piece. It just isn’t particularly unique from a theorist’s perspective, and the mixing and mastering could stand to be cleaned up a bit. Keep at it, ClockbeatAdelony87. ;)
