Improv 1/18/18 {WIP}

For 2018, my goal is to record 6-7 minimal piano tracks for a particular project. This improv is something I just came up with recently on the piano, and I'm sharing the rough draft of ideas.
My plan is to shape up the measures on sheet music and record myself playing it on an actual piano.
I don't think I'll be uploading much music here on Newgrounds as I want to spend my focus on doing this right and releasing it all at once. I figure this track could show as an update on whats going on and to prove I'm not fully absent from Newgrounds.

Let this track serve as mere background music if you please. I didn't do much edits and this performance is precisely what I did just to keep track of my ideas. I assure you it will sound different when it's time to record it, but the main idea is to keep two notes (E&F) the same throughout as other notes move around them.

beautiful, I love it.
I usually just listen to EDM and such, as that is what I create, but this is enough to draw me away for a while...
The way this piece "moves" in a sense makes me remember my happiest memories. I'm sure I speak for everyone, saying that.
I agree with LucidShadowDreamer in that you explored some uncommon harmonies, which I love because people seem to just reuse harmonies and melodies left and right nowadays. Good job on that.
Phenomenal job on this piece, and I can't wait to hear more of your songs!
5/5

Phonometrologist responds:

That's quite an encouragement to read. As far as uncommon harmonies go, one really just needs to listen to as much music as possible with many different styles. Eventually, one could get their ears tuned into whatever the underground river of music is playing. Otherwise we might not ever discover it, nor fully realize a piece of music's capabilities.
I'm not saying anyone has the ability to fully realize this flow. It just comes and as quickly it does, it goes. I'm merely at a brook at one end trying to catch a part of it.

1:39 caught me off guard in the best of ways. This is a wonderful little improv. Reminds me of broove, which I'm sure you'll appreciate. The improv is weird in the best of ways. You explored some harmonies I don't hear too often, but that actually make for a hauntingly beautiful sound together.

I'll look forward to when you end up releasing all of these, even if it might be all at once! Also, I just reached the heavy bass notes. You really managed to incorporate some pretty heavy dynamics into this improv :O

I like the idea with the two notes; your idea definitely worked out for the best. Keep it up!

Phonometrologist responds:

Hey YOU!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about it. This is a fun piece to play as it is simple and effective, I think. Though, broove's voice in his writing is extremely sad and I love it for that reason, but I couldn't compare this to any of his. But I understand that just because it reminds you of his stuff doesn't mean it's a direct comparison. I'm glad it does too, because then I suppose that means this isn't too repetitive and boring as a result. The idea here is to slowly build from stagnant voice leadings to more interesting melodic contours and harmonic tones from something as simple as starting with just two notes and two chords as the piece progresses. Now I still have to shape it to make it more subtle and purposeful in those changes as it's a little too fluid right now due to the emotion of improvising.

A breathtaking piece)

Phonometrologist responds:

Glad you like it
