The tale of a farm boy and his strange animal companion. The boy's mother named him Jewelweed, for his orange hair and green eyes. They matched the plants that grew in abundance, by the barn, in the fields and most everywhere. Bright green plants with light orange flowers, said to have medicinal and spiritual properties. Life was peaceful, normal, predictable. A dog to help track in the forests. A pig to help find mushrooms. Crops in the fields and bright blue skies. No magic. No monsters. Just life.
One day Jewelweed awoke to find his whole world had changed. Disappeared. Along with his family, and friends. The lay of the land was the same but most every thing else was different. Darker. More hostile. A different dimension. The only familiar things left were, the barn, the old man by the lake and the dog, or was it the pig? The barn was now vacant. Run down and weather worn. Though remained strangely free of any malevolent forces. The man by the great lake used to be wise. His house once a brightly lit bait shop for fishing. Now an old rickety shack. Seemingly confused and senile, the man would babble about crazy magical things. Portals. Stars. The ancient future, or so he called it.
The dog and pig had become one. A Pigdog. A large, ugly, powerful creature. Stupid looking with slightly cross brown eyes. An excellent tracker. Surprisingly smart. Always happy and extremely loyal. Together Jewelweed and Pigdog begin the quest for a way back to their own dimension. Along the journey discovering hidden abilities. For Jewelweed, the heart fire. An offensive wind and fire magic, allowing a blade made of any material, to become a powerful weapon. For Pigdog the great barrier. A defensive earth and water magic. A great asset in a hate filled world of monsters, untrustworthy humans and gross insects.
Moomud. The once quaint old town below the rolling hills of the farm, was now a filthy place. Not so much physically but emotionally. Full of deformed people, who hated anything pretty. Their social code was that honesty was shameful and sympathy scarce. Lying and cheating were the ways of the land. The once glimmering great lake, was now dark. Full of strange ugly fish, baring shimmering celestial constellations on their backs. Jewelweed would have to learn how to combat this new upside down world. Can you decipher the old man's ramblings? What is this mountain he keeps talking about? What is the hidden meaning in the lake? The epic adventure begins!
Been waiting a long time to post this. Life kept getting in the way but here it is. Took many many many hours to make because I wanted this to be as analog as possible. 90% of all the sounds and instruments are analog. Even some of the effects too. I wanted this to sound retro. I imagined this the theme song for an old school 16 bit RPG style game. I really wanted to commission some art of the RPG game too but didn't find anyone interested in time. Maybe another day.
Used my eurorack rig to make it: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/492202 as well as the analog poly phobos VCO by blue lantern modules for all the main synth leads, my old roland fantom x6, korg volca kick, a few plug-ins and a bunch of old crappy beat up analog sound gear. Production and mixing in logic pro. Feedback welcome.
