Whee! We made it to the front page! Good work everyone! I am always delighted to see how often these singalongs get such a kind recognition!

Ceevro here! Back for another round!
So this year, we lost a Canadian icon. Mr. Gord Downie, lead singer and songwriter of The Tragically Hip, died of an inoperable brain tumour. I heard his brother speaking on the radio a couple days after his passing...and his brother said that Gord's Eulogy will be given every time someone picks up a guitar around a campfire and sings one of his songs.
So that's what this is. One last hurrah for Gord.
I want to thank the group of musicians who came together to realize this project. Some of you are regulars on these Singalong adventures, others are just brand new. It doesn't matter! All that matters is that you express joy in what you do! Special credit to the artist known as Quinn...she's not on NG, but she was kind enough to record a vocal in my very home for us! As well, special thanks to FinnMK for his wonderfully warm job of mastering the final track!
I'd also like to thank my friend MetalRenard for putting the hours of mixing and mastering in that it takes to bring raw dirty files into being a truly beautiful track!
And with that, I pass the mic to our mixer!
Metalrenard writes:
I've always loved these big collab projects; I even pestered Ceevro a couple of times to get him to organise another. I hadn't heard of The Tragically Hip before but Gord Downie has definitely left a legacy behind and I hope we've done it justice! I walk around at work quietly singing the lyrics to myself now and sometimes not so quietly, much to the detriment our neighbours. I recorded my vocals at work, too, late one evening! My partner tells me I'm like a foghorn...
It was a pleasure to mix this sing along. Each performance is so unique and yet, when put together, we have made something truly special. I had to use a few tricks to get the different parts to fit together - different rooms have different reverb, some microphones are less quiet than others... Thankfully, all the performances were awesome!! I had plenty to work with. There's so much talent contained in this one song, it's incredible. Finn mastered it artfully too, warming and rounding the edges nicely.
It was an honor to be a part of this, I look forward to working with all of you again!
LYRICS:
The Tragically Hip Lyrics
"Ahead By A Century"
First thing we'd climb a tree and maybe then we'd talk
Or sit silently and listen to our thoughts
With illusions of someday casting a golden light
No dress rehearsal, this is our life
And that's where the hornet stung me
And I had a feverish dream
With revenge and doubt
Tonight we smoke them out
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century
Stare in the morning shroud and then the day began
I tilted your cloud, you tilted my hand
Rain falls in real time and rain fell through the night
No dress rehearsal, this is our life
But that's when the hornet stung me
And I had a serious dream
With revenge and doubt
Tonight we smoke them out
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century (this is our life)
You are ahead by a century
And disappointing you is getting me down
This a fantastic cover, you guys nail'd it!
Well thank you! We all worked hard!
It was such a blast to work on this with everyone. You all have such beautiful voices with unique qualities. From Seneka's sultry warm tones to Finn's clear and smooth vibrato, from Ceevro's deep and powerful bass to Quinn's complimentary pure highs, ChronoNomad's powerful grit... Just awesome!!!
And some guy who just sat behind a keyboard and hit the spacebar lots! ;)
Really Powerful
Thank you! We all worked hard on this one!
