This one took about 6 hours to do, and I'm pretty happy with the result~ If I actually do manage to make a game though I'll probably tweak this one to loop better.
Conflicted.
You made a great eerie feeling song, but the higher pitch guitar just seems totally off beat and doesn't fit the eerie pad sounds at all. It sounds like it's totally out of place, while the pad and bass are making an awesome ambient song.
I would love to hear it without the guitar. Maybe a different instrument at a slower speed to match the bass and pad's slow paces.
I see the potential in it so I do want to give it 4/5 even with the big problem I have with it. Well done =)
I'm not sure what you mean by off beat, the main chords on the guitar hit at the same time as the bass, even more so since I keep everything snapped to the 16th notes. Even going through the project file I don't see anything out of line.
As for choice of instrumentation, the guitar fits best considering the alternatives, most other instruments such as marimbas, pianos, woodwinds, choirs etc. either have too much bleed or become too plinky, taking away from the flow of the notes.
Lastly, the pad and bass parts overall are very basic and mechanical with not much changing in their parts aside from the bass picking up the harmony for a few measures, and can easily become repetitive if left on their own. They're merely a solid, buttery smooth foundation for the strings and guitar to build from.
It is really good. Well done!
