A few days ago I tried to recreate one of the melodies from an anime song and then I found this key, which I believe is C sharp minor. I really liked it so I decided to use it for my next song. I made part B first, which is extremely catchy, and then I made part A, intentionally leaving out the dominant chord because I thought that it would create an interesting effect.
Even though the song only has four instruments as well as a lot of repetition, it was difficult to make. There are hundreds of notes in the song, and I changed the velocity of each note at least twice. I wanted the piano to sound at least somewhat realistic. The violin soundfont was difficult to work with because it sounded fake in its original form. After adding reverb, delay, and a sliding effect on some notes, it sounded much more realistic.
The mixing wasn't difficult, but it took a long time, especially because of the flute. In the current mix, the "bass" and violin are panned slightly to the left and the piano, bell, and flute slightly to the right. There is also a hidden choir pad that's centered. I'm not sure why I added the bell, but I can easily remove it if someone doesn't like it.

I didn't know how to end the song so I decided to just use one final chord. I didn't want to end the song on the root chord because it would sound too satisfying so I chose the current one.

Usually when I complete a song, there is usually a major flaw that annoys me, but this time, I feel content. I know there are flaws and the composition is simple, but I can enjoy the entire song without thinking about my mistakes or shortcomings.

Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed this song, you can also listen to a similar song I made called "Regret".

The rain and thunder sound effects are from:

update 11/5 I improved the mixing and exported the song in a much higher quality. The piano now sounds like the dominant instrument instead of the violin. I also made a slight change to the ending. If you don't hear the new changes. try clearing your cache.

update 12/21 I added a lot more details and made the piano sound more realistic.

Update 1/17/16 I improved the mix, again, and changed some note velocities. I also changed the ending note because to give the ending a sense of uneasiness.

Woah, you've made a lot of tracks since my last binge-review session. I like the strings and piano combo. The emotion is great, and the rain/thunder sound effects complement those harmonies well. It's beautiful, if a little structurally flat. I would've liked to see you do more to distinguish between the various sections of the piece, and some dynamic contrast and phrasing couldn't hurt either. You might need some sort of breakdown section or bridge as well. Still, I think your samples are really good, and the ending was fitting (even though the track cut off a little suddenly). This is one of your better tracks IMO. Keep up the great work, BO! ^_^

Gotta agree with you man,

I definitely enjoyed the piano solo piece way more than this one, but it's still nice, the strings are not quite in tune for my taste... Idk what is it.

Maybe revisit this project again in the future, I think its got quite a lot of potential ;)

Keep it up!

Johnny~

I love it and it definitely sounds like an anime ost. Excellent work. I too am trying to make something that would fit an anime, but mine isn't even remotely polished. What program did you use to make this?
I like the violin best. Everything sounds soft and atomospheric, and serious. Good Game. 5/5 stars

This has a really good atmosphere to it! It makes me feel like I'm ballroom dancing with my S/O alone during a stormy night. Rose pedals all over the hardwood floors. Very romantic sounding and overall beautiful in my ears.

Now this track, is really my style of stuff to listen to! A very tasteful choice of both chords and melody. It's a very emotional piece, which makes it all the better. You can see from the download ratio that this is a good composition, not only to me, but many others as well.

The instrument choices are good, and they emphasize just the right spots of the melody too. Your pickiness payed of, as it gave a great dynamic value to this piece (especially good job for this being soundfonts, or in the very least the violin). The repetition doesn't really bother me either. As johnfn usually says: a good melody deserves repetition :)
I hear nothing bad with the mix either.

Once again, it's great to see you back, and with some new genres too! You have a speldid taste for good melodies and chords, which I appreciate very much; keep up the good work :D

I actually listened to your ngadm song for inspiration :D

"(especially good job for this being soundfonts, or in the very least the violin). "

Everything except the piano and choir pad is a soundfont.

"The instrument choices are good, and they emphasize just the right spots of the melody too."

I'm glad you liked the instruments. With the violin and flute, I tried to choose melodic notes that emphasized the piano melody or enhanced a chord's emotion.

I'm glad to be back. Thank you for reviewing my new songs!
