[GameJam] - Level 1: Jimmy the Tutorial

Hey Newgrounds! Someone mentioned you during a Gamejam I attended, so I decided to put these songs I made for the jam up here.
If you find any of the 3 I made worthy of placing into your life, please do so with care. I didn't really expect much from any of these songs since I had a very limited amount of time to work and just needed something to prove I wasn't useless at the jam. Also: In the game only the Metal version plays, OR the Techno version plays, not at the same time. Buuuut I don't want to make 9 posts for 3 songs xD
(Plus I like them together)
We came in like 8th place out of 12. We did win "Best Narrative" and "Best Humor".
But honestly, even after the first few hours passed I knew deep down our team didn't stand a chance. We had too many people and not enough direction. Plus our game plays like shit.
There are actually a lot of reasons why we sucked but I'll keep those to myself and take my wooden medal home.
If you want to play the game you can check it out here: http://stubob.itch.io/sphinkta-method
But just fyi, it's a .zip file since we were using Unity so you can't just play it in your browser. I apologize if that kills it for you. If it makes it any better, you play as Dr. Sphinkta of St. Balls Mental Institution.

ABOUT THIS SONG
**********************

When I originally wrote this thing, I was writing it for the tutorial level. Little did I know the "tutorial" would actually be Level 1. I wanted the tutorial level to have an easier going soundtrack to get you used to the switching effect of the game. Buuuut... things don't always work out like you plan.

After listening to this song nonstop for nearly hours, I realized my lead guitar part is SUPER out of tune. But I didn't realize at the time, which makes me feel ashamed on the inside.

HEY! been a while burn7, im glad you're still sticking around. as always you have that hardcore rock feeling to your songs.

~Kronix

This one's definitely my fav of the three (but they're all solid), has a good sound to it, and I agree with you that it doesn't really fit for a tutorial. But hey, group projects are usually known to suck, and you did what you could in the allotted time, so good work on these three new tracks ^^

Burn7 responds:

Hahah, I honestly was hoping you'd listen to these. Because when I was writing them I thought it would be good practice for recreating the song you asked for :P

I've actually been fussing over what I should really do if I'm to recreate it. Because it has been a very long time since I wrote that song, and I'm somewhat unsure of how to revamp it. Maybe just re-record it? Make it sound better? Change the rhythm, include counter-melodies? There are just so many options for the song you suggested it almost gets me stuck in possibility.

But I'm glad you liked what I made here, glad I could be of entertainment again for ya!

A perfect loop! Would be epic as my ringtone on my phone! There's only one issue I find with this piece of ear tingling loveliness my friend, your lead is a little over-powering and the reverb is a bit high. Other than that, this little sliver of joy is just what I needed at 1:30am!!!!

If this was supposed to be for a tutorial level...dude...
I'm curious to see what else to lurk outta your skill-bank :-D
I have another interesting challenge for you too ;-) I think you'll like this as this piece would suit your melody :P I'll send you the link, and take your time with this piece because the energy of the track is right up your...heh, you get where i'm coming from bro!

4.5 outta 5 for one of my favorite NG artists!

Burn7 responds:

Hahah, well it has a very basic structure and it's... eh, "easier listening" in terms of melodic structure. So I figured it would work well as a tutorial, just a "Here's your introduction to the mechanics of our game".

Buuuuut our game was super basic and very poorly put together. So there was no need for a simple introductory music. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed this one :P

I also read your challenge, and damn dude... I just need you to be my old-skool game remix adviser because as soon as I listened to the piece I envisioned exactly what I could do with it.

If this is what you consider tutorial music then I'm REALLY interested in the final boss and credits music!

Burn7 responds:

Hahah, if only we had the time to be able to make a boss xP

One day I might get around to doing a full game soundtrack. But until that day, we have only these three. But thank you for checking me out and giving me a review! I appreciate it!
