Do you consider your music just plain heavy metal or a specific genre of metal? To me, you're an alternative metal musician. What are your favorite bands and musicians?
I listen to everything but to relate to the the topic my favorite hard rock/ heavy metal bands are:
AC/DC
Guns N' Roses
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Danzig
Black Sabbath
Three Days Grace
Metallica (early)
Rhapsody of Fire
Pantera
Slayer
Kreator
Megadeth
Mushroomhead
Flesh Assembly
Bathory
Toxic Holocaut
Mötley Crüe
and many many more...
I'm not sure what I'd consider it to be honest.
Just metal. Heavy guitars, polyrhythms, some odd time signatures, 7-string guitars.
Heavily inspired by the djent and melodeath scene.
Your guess is as good as mine.
I like most of the bands you mentioned before, but I take a lot of inspiration from Scar Symmetry, In Flames (older stuff), Disarmonia Mundi, Meshuggah, Bulb, Tesseract, Monuments and Intervals.
Mash those into a band and you've got it.
