This is a NGADM Round 1 Review.

-----

Good:
- Cool intro; the chip synths and percussion transition well into the heavier mix.
- Nice break at 0:58.
- Effective beat; great use of samples.

This track reminds me of Deadmau5 with a sprinkle of Daft Punk and a dash of TRON. I really dig the blend of the chip synths and the heavier samples you used to implement the kick, hats and bass. The arpeggiated synth is effective in keeping everything tied together, and it sets the pace quite nicely, however...

What to consider:
- Quite repetitive -- needs some more variety!
- Melody needs more development.

In terms of overall composition, this track is pretty repetitive (the ideas and a strong foundation are all present, however!). At 1:36, the track simply begins over from the beginning -- though, I like how you make things sound more and more hectic at 2:34. Furthermore, there really isn't much of a melody besides the arpeggiated synth. Perhaps you could try playing around with adding another instrument to play off of the synth and bass in order to create an engaging pattern!

Score: 7.9/10

I love the ominous mood at the beginning, and how you left yourself a lot of space for climax and contrast. The more hard-hitting vibe you start aiming for at around :20 is really cool. It progresses a little slowly at times, but the mood is great. The breaks at :58 are nicely done. The quirky instruments and effects complement each other well. I would’ve liked to see some more melodic content, though. You kind of use arpeggios in place of melodies, which is not only frowned upon in and of itself but also leaves little room for melodic development later on in the piece. I like that you created some structural relief at 1:36, though. The song is catchy and upbeat, and I admire your sense of harmony and progression, but you still need some more melodies in there. The modulation at 2:34 was effective in channeling the energy, and I like how you capitalized on that intensity by adding an interesting high chord part. Still, the fade-out ending was a bit lazily done IMO (there are so many more creative ways of ending a piece than with a fade-out). The production quality here is pretty high, though. My main problem here is still the melodies. You simply need some that aren’t strictly based on arpeggios. Overall, though, this was a solid effort. Keep at it, man. ;)

You didn't use a dynamic link XD that's okay, I don't know how to do it either!

Man, that awesomeness at 0:20 hit hard! Although admittedly it could have been harder, it's definitely a lot better than what I could have pulled off, so I'm not complaining.

One thing I didn't like: that weird, high synth introduced at 01:17. I don't know what to call that. But I kinda feel like it doesn't fit the context of the rest of the track. Y'know? But your other sounds

Also at 02:33 you decide to raise the key signature a bit (raise the key signature? i dunno what to call it), and while it sounds really cool (a tried and true tactic), it was a bit sudden and unexpected.

But overall good work! I've never heard of you but I'll be sure to remember that username for the future... good luck! :D

JohnMontoya responds:

I appreciate the input! It's quite unfortunate I cannot use my full potential because I had to give up my $1,500 computer to my brother because his broke down. I'm doing my best trying to rework it and what-not but I keep having issues where FL crashes and it truly frustrates me. I'll admit it - I submitted this as is just in case I can't fix certain issues within the track. I'll do my best to focus on those aspects of the song so I'll have a fighting chance.
