This started as an RPM Challenge project, in which an album had to be created within the month of February. I wanted to try something that combined the "cinematic" feel of post-rock music with the aggression of black metal. Wyrgan is the result. Currently looking to make this a real band.
The demo, The Gift of Fear, is described as combining "black metal with impressionism, motivic development, existential despair, and a Do-It-Yourself attitude."
I was hesitant about putting this on Newgrounds, but I'd figure I should at least put something up that wasn't just a 40 second teaser. I think this marks the first original metal song I've published here in nearly three years. Anyway, this is the first track off of the album. I can't say I'm a huge post-black metal fan, but this is cool as hell. Very, very few bands in this style of music manage to combine post-rock with black metal and come out with something good, and you pretty much nailed it. Some of the melodies actually kinda remind me of Blut aus Nord - which is a very good thing. Good stuff.

I usually don't like growl only metal, or this kind of really brutal metal in general. The reverb changes all that, though. It actually feels kinda psychedelic, hypnotizing. I like this!
