So, I had a bit of free time today, and instead of doing my homework, I got bored and made this. This it the result of about two and a half hours of work, and I think it's pretty catchy! I'm also practicing my mixing, and I think this one of my better mixing works - although the snare could probably still use some work.

In other news, the sky in Beijing is brown. There's a sandstorm blowing in from Inner Mongolia, and the cloud cover and pollution is so thick that the sky is literally brown. No sun. Just brown. What the hell, weather?

Anyways, I digress. In a word, I think this song is probably best summed up with 'nifty'. Thanks for listening and hope you enjoyed!

Cool

Another cool video game sound and its very good in quality I like it very much love that game sounds and you made it trancend into each new note There are some things that really stand out here I and others have perceived this piece as some good sounds I like what I am hearing sofar, some parts of this are Immeasurable and I have never been that much for songs like this so I can't give it a full review but this was a Great song otherwise, nice game music

~X~

Definitely quirky...and videogame-y! I like the cute synths and melodies. In fact, the melody at :16 probably almost had too much reverb given the genre. However, structurally speaking, it doesn't change that much until :47. Especially since this is such a short piece, I think the drums and bass should've come in much earlier. Still, I admire your sense of harmony here, and, admittedly, when the drums and bass DID come in, it sounded pretty cool. ;) Nice job with the melody at 1:18, too, but I thought that instrument was a bit too loud and/or in-your-face. Maybe you should've EQ'd out some of the high-toned end of the Equalizer? Idk...it's hard to pinpoint exactly what I didn't like about the synth. Maybe it was the instrument itself, in fact. Overall, though, I love the moods and rhythms and melodies here. Loops flawlessly. Well done, LunacyEcho! ^^

=> melody at :16 =>

If any melody were to be complained about for having too much reverb, I would've thought it'd be the one at 1:02! I can see what you mean, though. In hindsight, I should've picked a better synth - the muted-ness gets old after a while.

=> structurally short =>

But if the drums come in earlier, the piece would be even shorter! Although to be honest, I'm surprised it cracked 2:00 in the way it did. Yeah, the drums should've come earlier, but I really liked where I was going with the solo!

=> 1:18 =>

You know, that's the same synth as 0:16. It really is getting old, isn't it? :P

=> loops flawlessly =>

Interestingly, different softwares have different looping mechanisms, so a song that loops flawlessly on Newgrounds might not do so on iTunes or some other website. There are two solutions: only write ambient music, or upload to as few websites as possible. :D

Thanks for the review! And thanks so much for spending such a long time reviewing everything after your exams! Have fun in college!

First of all, sorry for being extremely late XD

This is VERY catchy. You really have a great sense for melodies, especially these kinds of pretty happy/chill and uplifting ones. MOAR DARKNISS IZ NIIDID DO!

I think the mixing is pretty good indeed. Unless your intruments were prepanned, it actually sounds like you did some panning here, and it works wonders!

Once again, unless I have prepanning to blame, your panning is surprisingly similar to how I've come to like doing it, with most of the melodies a bit more dominant in the right ear, while keeping bass, synth beat thingy and drums mostly to the middle, and extra stuff and such, a bit to the left, but with good balance.

This actually reminds me of some retro video game (particularly Ape Escape, and NOT FINAL FANTASY! Who would've thought?) music to some extent, even if the quality is obviously better here.

I think the intrumentation is great throughout the whole track. It's also interesting that you decided to make this a loop!

I'd like to have dropped a longer review, but I think I've said pretty much everything I came to say. Except that we're, quite regrettably, back at the stage where your tags mean pretty much nothing to me, except for 2014 which was last year, and I still don't get it XD

Great job! You need to make more tracks now though, time or not!

Ps. I wonder what Darude was doing in Mongolia o.O?

LunacyEcho responds:

=> catchy =>

Yay! Just what I was going for!

=> DARKNISS =>

but darkniss is for the bad

=> mixing =>

I think one of the things I worked hardest on with this piece was getting the EQ'ing right, so that's cool! I did do a bit of panning, but the most impressive part was probably the auto-panned pad at 1:19. :P

=> panning strategies =>

Yeah, that's basically what I do. :P Although one of the things I make a conscious effort to do is if I have conflicting EQ's, I'll pan one to each side (did that a lot in Overarching Medley, especially towards the end, but looking back, it feels a bit weird now).

=> not final fantasy =>

who are you and what have you done to lucidshadowdreamer

=> loop =>

It's funny - I actually thought of the main backing melody (the one that starts playing from the start) a LONG while ago, and imagined that it would be the kind of melody to play in the background of some anime scene where a character would reveal something surprising to the other. It's actually one of the only melodies I've ever had that I consciously attributed a visual scene to before composing around it!

=> tags =>

This tag I got from a British quiz show called 'Only Connect' (great show, would definitely recommend). Basically, these are all ways of referring to the year '2014' in different calendar systems. It doesn't relate to the song in any way, but I just thought it was interesting. :D

BUT
EXAMS
:'(
okay.

=> Darude =>

hahahahahaha oh god not this again

Seeing as your making music on your own accord now, some higher quality music will be coming ay?
I was right, this is very nice, keep it up!

LunacyEcho responds:

Thanks! I'll definitely be sticking more to music I know more about making from here on out, but you might also see me experimenting with some stuff as well. In other words, I'll try to put more quality stuff on here, but you might also see some weird stuff too.

Thanks for listening!
