Overarching Medley

Even though this thing is more than two weeks late, I'm finally finished! :D

This is a medley of every single song that I created during the process of this project, and I'm pretty proud of myself that I did all this stuff. That said, this probably won't make much sense to most people listening, since you won't get most of the song if you haven't listened to the stuff I've been putting out for the last year. That's okay! This was intended to be more of a victory song for me. :P

I guess this is supposed to mark all of the progress that I went through during the project. Everything from the me-ish drums to the ending took some inspiration from stuff I did in the past, and this song sort of encompasses all of that. I like it! Lots of people probably wouldn't (this isn't really my best work composition-wise or production-wise), but I can find comfort in knowing that this song means something to me, at least.

I don't really know what I'm going to do now! I guess I'll just write music depending on how I'm feeling. It's nice not to have a schedule like this, but on the other hand, I'll probably be a lot less proficient. But you never know! Maybe I'll give myself another project soon... (nah. I won't.)

I have to say this was nice it was refreshing and pleasent love the cute like sound here even has a game like sound quality about it, You are very talented And as I start out on this piece It already gives off a positive vibe and thats a plus as I do enjoy these kinds of tracks so now lets get into this, so this was well composed and why thats just a small Summary but anyways, Now that this is comming to an end I will say that you have impressed me with all the detail of effort and energy that you put into this, love it its cute

~X~

Hmm...I like the instruments and blissful moods and melodies. The key change at :27 was a bit sudden IMO. Also, I thought the chord progression at the beginning was a little cliché. Somehow the beginning of the piece made me think you were going to loop it...It just seemed like a good strong beginning to loop back to. Otherwise, this song lacks coherence. I understand that it's supposed to be a mash-up of all the songs you've made as part of your "one-song-of-every-genre-in-a-year" project, but I think if you're going to go for a medley that ambitious you should spread it out and really try to make it epic, i.e. tons of ups and downs in a 5-minute roarin' masterpiece!!! Instead, the harmonies came off as extremely forced at times, like at 2:28. The ending was sudden, and overall, it simply lacks flow. It sounds just like what it is: a mash-up of a ridiculous number of songs. I don't remember a lot of the songs you wrote in the past year (there've been a lot), so I think it would be better if this wasn't so confusing to listen to. Sorry LE. I've been tough on you, and I know this was a huge project for you. I love a lot of the individual riffs, but, as you and I both know, they're part of their own specific songs. If you want to give this whole "epic medley of all the genres on NG" thing another go, I would suggest making several dozen more songs of all different genres once more, and then attempting this medley again next year using your newest songs! Haha, now there's a project for you! See you next year! ...I'm kidding. However, I'd say it is quite an accomplishment that you were so willing to explore your genre-making capabilities, and I'm sure you learned a lot throughout the process. Keep up the good work, LunacyEcho! :D

LunacyEcho responds:

=> cliché chord progression =>

Yeah, I get it. But that was back when I wrote Energy Flux, and wasn't thinking at all about original chord progressions, just finding stuff that I liked.

=> loop =>

Now that you mention it, that does sound like a loop-y beginning. :P

=> spread it out and really try to make it epic =>

I'd originally planned it basically just as you said, but eventually, it became more work than fun after trying to fit everything in. :/

=> 2:28 =>

Huh? I'm having a hard time seeing how that sounded forced. I mean, it was a riff directly taken from 'All the Raps'. Unless you meant the transition? Then, yeah, I can kinda see it.

=> lacks flow =>

Well, I was thoroughly debating with myself when I started this whether I should keep the same beat and instruments and just change around the melody, or change a bunch of stuff every few songs. In the end, I decided to sacrifice the flow of the song to create a more interesting piece to listen to, and also to show how much my production has improved over the year through a bunch of different styles of music. :P

=> attempting this medley again =>

*commits suicide*

Thanks for the review, and thanks for reviewing nearly every single piece I've done! You and LSD are some of the most consistent people whose feedback I can count on, and I really have to thank you so much for helping support me throughout this project. You keep up the good work too!

A great accomplishment, Well done Lunacy :P

LunacyEcho responds:

Thanks! And thanks to you for following and commenting for such a long time! :)

Lol, fusion indeed. Fusion of all your tracks during this project. Awesome idea! No wonder it took such a long time. It's much easier to just make something random, most of the times :D

Normally I would comment about all the melodies and weird progressions between so many different genres, but as it's intentional, there's no point. It really works well here too, if you know the context!

That said, not all transitions are super-smooth, but I will forgive. There are also better and worse melodies here and there, as some of your previous tracks were better and worse than others. I'll focus on the unique aspects of this song (lolled at Polargeist at 3:10).

"...won't make much sense to most people..."

=> I guess I'm one of the special people then :D

"victory song"

"Maybe I'll give myself another project soon..."

=> Combine every genre with eachother once. Bluegrass-dubstep, Single intrument-rock etc...
You'll be done in no time!

Now, for the actual review...

I'd like to cop out, saying I've actually already reviewed every single part once (if I'm not mistaken, in which case you must inform me, so that I can fix the issue!!!).

But I do like most of the intruments and combinations of them, the percussion is up to par with most of your work. The songs are easily recognizable if you know them. Random proof: A few seconds of "Desert Sandstorm" at 1:19 and so on. Which means you did a good job of including parts from all the songs that make them unique and in separating them from each other too. I like that it's not the same intruments as in the original, makes this even more interesting, and impressive. A lot of work must've been put into this, I'd imagine. No part is really a climax, and no part has like 30 different intruments in them (as that'd be insane, considering how often you had to switch intruments).

I'd have to agree that this is not your best work, but it's still very VERY good. You had a lot you had to work with. The production is good (100 times better than it would be had I made this). I couldn't even muster up the energy to make a medley of my own best songs (DO ONE FOR MEEE PLIIIIIISSSS!!??? :'3?

Ehhehhhehh....

Overall, really good job, and I can easily understand why this track means a lot to you. It's a bit similar to the playlist I have on my account that no one knows about :)

But here comes what I knew you were waiting for...

The ending... Really?

Coversation between Johnfn and Lunacyecho:

Luny: "You're endings are not that good, kinda... ish..."

Jo: "Hello Kettle, this is Pot. You're black".

Yup.

And no, I did not spellcheck this, becus I iz rebl.

Aw3somE W0rck M8, K? K! :D

LunacyEcho responds:

=> long time =>

Ha! Yup! That's why it took a long time. It definitely had nothing to do with the week-long break, my upcoming competition, or my discovery of Game of Thrones. None of that.

=> transitions =>

When I write more medleys in the future (and I will!) I ought to focus more on my transitions, since those make or break a good medley. Step's medley of Super Mario Galaxy songs (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/598812) is done EXTREMELY well. Much better than I can do!

=> Polargeist =>

Yup! Included because Geometry Dash medley.

=> special people =>

You are special!

=> combine ever genre with another one =>

Based on my hasty calculations, that would take 701 different songs. Haha no. Although, a couple of those combinations are a bit tantalizing... READY THE RNG, CARL!

=> reviewed every single part once =>

Eh, probably. :P

=> different instruments =>

Of course! Don't want to make it too boring or recognizable now, do we?

=> no part really has a climax =>

I guess I should've added one. Oh well! Live and learn!

=> production =>

Really? It must all be Logic's work. The only production I did on purpose was stereo imaging those synths at the end, and even that was haphazard and random.

=> DO ONE FOR MEEE PLIIIIIISSSSS!!??? =>

Sure! But give me a time frame of a year. :D

=> playlist =>

Huh? I'll be sure to check that out!

=> ending =>

Hue. Ending. You know, that kettle/pot joke is one that transcends all kinds of cultures. Interesting.

REBL

Thanks for the huge review and sticking with me through the entire process! You really helped inspire me for lots of my songs and I really have to thank you for helping get this thing done. See you on the flip side!
