Applause (Instrumental Cover)

Edit: Original chorus instrument replaced.

An instrumental cover version of the popular Electropop / Eurodance hit, Applause. I take no credit for the original song, but I believe that I have managed to faithfully recreate the song by substituting electronic melodies for the lyrics.

There are lots of remixes out there, but I wanted to make a faithful cover without the lyrics, so that's precisely what I did. It's a simple thing to remove the lyric-based melody line for use as a karaoke track too, so...that's awesome.

And no, I'm not typically the biggest Lady Gaga fan, but you have to admit that this is one hell of a catchy song. Seriously.

Everything used here is what comes with FL Studio, so the percussion is strictly vanilla, and all the instruments (melody, harmony, bass) are Sytrus. Other than that it's just Fruity Free Filter (percussion only) and lots of Fruity Parametric EQ 2 to get the right sound.

Pretty awesome!

This is what Applause would sound like if it were in the style of Newgrounds Techno. I have to admit that users in Newgrounds have created an iconic techno sound that is easily distinguishable from other techno.

ChronoNomad responds:

Thanks, CrazyYoungPiplup! Yeah, iconic feels like a good word for it. I guess we Newgrounds musicians are a pretty unique bunch, huh? Glad you enjoy the jam and I appreciate the quick review.

Hey, me again. I bet you were wondering where my review was haha. Well, I've been a bit busy so now is I'm able to hear this. Unfortunately my good Skullcandy headphones broke on me for good so I'm listening through some cheap ones, until I can buy some good Bose headphones, but I'll try to listen as best I can. Anyways, I agree this song is really catchy. I like what you did with this, sounds really epic and synthy! Compared to the original, it's fairly accurate melodically , though some of the instruments don't precisely match the original, and some of the special effects are missing. Overall, very good job! I rated this mainly on accuracy. By the way, I did the same thing with the song Living On My Own (1993 Radio Mix) with Freddie Mercury, maybe I'll post it sometime. ;)

ChronoNomad responds:

I'm not surprised that you've been otherwise occupied since this is typically one of the busiest seasons! I did wonder if I would see you here, but good things come to those who wait. :)

I am really sorry to hear about your headphone woes. I know that I would be rather lost without my headphones, so I always make it a point to keep a spare around...just in case. Hope you can get the Bose soon!

As for the song, I wanted a cover, but not a cover that would be exactly like the original since...well, it's already been done. That being the case, I took some liberties with instrument selection and ultimately left out the white noise transition effects and background cheering since I wanted to just focus on using samples that I already had. I may or may not add in those white noise sweeps just because I kind of miss them.

You should definitely submit that one of these days! I'm definitely a fan of Queen and Freddie Mercury, and I'd love to hear it. Please let me know if you decide to post it here on Newgrounds or somewhere else! ^__^

Nice production. I loved the sound of the verse, it sounded so clean. I would like to hear the chorus a bit more rougher. The synth-lead should be replaced with a guitar, or it should get some distortion or something like that.

ChronoNomad responds:

Thanks a lot for the feedback, hnieuw! Your review is greatly appreciated, and I am pleased to receive your comment on the level of production; that's something I've really been working on. You know, the chorus is honestly the one thing that I'm not as happy with as I would like to be, so I can't help but agree. I think I'll see if I can modify the existing synth-lead (Acid) or find something a bit more suitable. Thanks again! :D

I'm afraid to review this, cause... well... just look at my music xD.
But you are absolutely right with this song... it's so fucking catchy and I hate that I like it... xD

You did a great job here, dude! ^_^

ChronoNomad responds:

Many thanks, man! I've been working on some other projects and had kind of lost my momentum, but hopefully doing something different will help me get those back on track. Life is crazy, and you never know what's going to come at you, but I hate putting the music on a back burner more than anything.

Maybe the best thing about this is that you don't have to listen to Lady Gaga and can just focus on the music. :3 All those times listening to it evolve during the production phase, and I'm still not sick of it! It really is just too damn catchy. :P
