EDIT: Worked on the criticism that people suggested. This now has an ever so slightly modified ending and more reverb on the guitar during the intro and outro. Also some more atmospheric embellishments if you listen closely enough!

Despite the extremely demanding demands (I'm sleepy, give me a break) of Maltese schools, I have somehow miraculously created a song for the Quest for the Crown contest that Bosa is running. Check out its thread here!
http://goo.gl/qCZwI

The point of the contest is to basically make something in the genre of soundtrack, classical, orchestral and some sub-categories of such genres. Since one could say that those kinds of genres are my strongest, I didn't want to miss out on such a great opportunity, even if it meant missing out on some sleep.

So here you have it, one of the shortest recent songs of mine. I'm not sure what inspired this... might've been Assassin's Creed's music or Zelda's... or just the fact that I composed most of this at night due to being at school or doing schoolwork for the most part of the day. I've thought up a scene for this but I don't have time to write it, so I'll leave the story in the minds of whoever listens to it. In any case, if my intentions were reached, this should tell a story without me having to write it.

This uses Virtual Guitarist for the strummed guitars, Omnisphere for the choirs and plucked guitar, East/West Ra for some of the string section, the duduk, the hardanger, the jaw harp, East/West Symphonic Orchestra for most of the strings, the brass, and most of the woodwinds, and Stormdrum for the bass drums, hard-hitting drums, darabuka, bowed cymbal, cymbal roll, gong, snare and tambourine!

I hope this is enjoyable. I worked really hard on it... maybe not spent a long time on it since I've got a tight schedule, but I gave it my all! Maybe I can expand on this sometime in the future since I feel that it's got some potential, but for now, enjoy! Thanks for listening, and constructive feedback, whether positive or negative, is always appreciated!

Beautiful <3

Step responds:

Aw shucks :3.

wow, amazing song. i don't really have much to say, other than:
this music, even though started slow, started off powerful. and that is tough for quite some people to do. good job.

Step responds:

Whoa thanks! That kind of "powerful but soft/slow" feeling is something I don't often do... usually when I add soft parts to my music they're just that... soft. I guess it's a different story with this submission then!

Thanks for reviewing, glad you enjoyed it.

Have you ever heard of the game "White Knight Chronicles", your song reminds me of the power and movement behind the soundtrack from that game.

Step responds:

I've never heard of that game but I checked out its theme song on YouTube and it's pretty awesome stuff!

Glad you liked the track man.

After hearing your worked in a collab with one of my favorite NG composers (Buoy) i thought to myself.... dammit this guy deserves to be listened! So here i am xD....on to the review:
This song is very emotional and sad, the guitars are done with a precision and mastery in Midi that surpasses what i honestly thought possible, i couldn't guess that they could be so realistic!
Needless to say that the whole song is amazing and i personally enjoy A LOT the slower parts, the way you are able to transform the slow sad song into an upbeat almost inspirational anthem is admirable!
Im gonna keep my eyes on you from now forward you certainly deserve the attention!
Great job Step!

Step responds:

Hey, you're the guy who reviewed Legend a few months ago. Thanks for yet another review man!

"After hearing your worked in a collab with one of my favorite NG composers (Buoy) i thought to myself.... dammit this guy deserves to be listened! So here i am xD....on to the review:"

Ha, well the word 'collab' makes it sound like I worked on the track a lot too. All I did was add a few instruments and effects in one of the parts, really. 99% of that amazing track is Buoy's work!

But I'm glad you came and left a review :3.

"This song is very emotional and sad, the guitars are done with a precision and mastery in Midi that surpasses what i honestly thought possible, i couldn't guess that they could be so realistic!"

Yeah, I'm using some pretty expensive VSTs to achieve this sound. I think all of the sounds you're hearing here are actually recorded from real instruments (as in, they're not synthesised). That's what you get for dishing out hundreds of pounds on high-end VSTs.

Although I like to think that my mixing helps make the expensive instruments sound a LITTLE better at least haha.

"Needless to say that the whole song is amazing and i personally enjoy A LOT the slower parts, the way you are able to transform the slow sad song into an upbeat almost inspirational anthem is admirable!"

That's great to hear. I'm still not very satisfied with the transitions here but they'll have to do; I had to rush this to get it in a contest on time.

"Im gonna keep my eyes on you from now forward you certainly deserve the attention!
Great job Step!"

Thanks so much dude, it's support like this that makes my day. Glad you enjoyed the track, thanks again for the great review!

Sounds good, I like it! I really like the percussion groove you have going and the sort of "western" feel, if you can call it that. Best of luck with the contest - good work.

Step responds:

Haha, you got me. At first I wanted to make this sound western. Ended up sounding like this though :P.

Yeah the percussion groove has a rhythm that I am absolutely adore. I've already used a similar rhythm in like three other tracks.

Glad you liked it man! Thanks for leaving a review.
