Alright, I think that just about puts a wrap on it for this song. This was not an easy song to deal with in any way, shape or form. However, it is a testament to my new direction. Mastering is not an easy thing, I learned; there's still some problems with this one - especially in the treble signal chain - but I think, in general, it sounds a lot better than its counterpart, Image >Unmastered<. In time, I will learn the proper do's and dont's when it comes to mastering, and hopefully the future of my music will look brighter.

Anyway, just give this one a listen, rate and review. There's still a good chance I'll release a V.2, so any feedback you give me is still worth it to me (as long as it's not a MFB, as I said before). Good luck, also, to my competition in the NGADM!

Deuces!

kickass track

yo, this a badass track dood. Flows real real nice. Just one thing is when you do a rhythm track, its much better to keep it to the rawest form...and that is pure distortion. All that flanger effects loses its tight ness. When i play with a drum set, i only use my Head and never any pedals. I apply that same concept when i do my recordings.

Solo was badass,
acoustic part was badass too

Definitely a step up!

The only thing I have an issue with (because of my oversensitive ears) Is that it's extremely treb-based. It's almost as if it's missing bass period.

And I still think that last part should be another song entirely.

Hey man, thanks for the review! Yeah, I haven't even messed with this song much since formulating it lol. I've developed some new mastering techniques, so hopefully in my next metal-based project (metal-based dubstep, if you can imagine such a thing! =P) I'll iron out some of these things. That bass was a BITCH to deal with, I'm gonna say that off the bat. It would always sound too muddy, or too soft. It turns out to be both in this mix, in my opinion. XP Yeah, the fade-out was just a quick conclusion for the NGADM contest; in my future projects, don't expect something so abrupt lol!

Good

A great song, well composed, however, as you say the mastering is a bit sketchy. Personal opinion (accounting for nothing) is to reduce the mids and treble on the hats and snare, perhaps a bit more low range for the bass and a more subtle overdrive on the guitar - the breakup is slightly to much, just on the edge of the sound. 9/10

mr-jazzman responds:

Hey man, thanks for the tips! I'll definitely take them into consideration during my next project. I also agree about the distortion. I dunno if I explained it in the notes or not, but this was essentially my first project recording live guitar, and using the new drum software that I got. I'll learn to iron these things out over time. Thank you for your suggestions though, they will definitely help! =)

Awesome but...

It doesn't bring out any sound in my subwoofer :< It'd be alot better if it did however. Otherwise its a very good song and I like it.

mr-jazzman responds:

Yeah, that's strange. I dunno, it was blasting outta mine at first (that could be why it's so soft right now, I probably overcompensated for some ppl =P). Thanks for the review man, glad you liked the song!

NGADM 2009 Group 2 Round 2

Brilliant, simply brilliant. As yet, after hearing it through three times, i cant find too much that's actually wrong with it. It has a superb melody for a Heavy Metal song, with great effects and guitar work. Mastering could use a bit more work, but other then that simply great. The filter you put on the guitar was great too and the bridge was amazing. The loudness however put me off a bit, i mean it sounds good on my com speakers but other then that not so much as my headphones tended to cut off its quality, maybe you could fix that a bit. The calm outro was simply brilliant and cut off the whole song simply fantastically. If all Heavy Metals song on Ng were this good, id find myself with a lot more of them on my favs list. Nice work.

SCORE : 9.5/10

P.S. This is your judging review from the NGADM 2009 Group 2 Round 2 and i posted it here cos its cool to have more reviews.

mr-jazzman responds:

Haha thanks for the review my friend; it would be nice if the scoring could go in-betweensies, but alas, it cannot. =`( I hope I can continue to receive more "brilliant" from you; the next song I submit won't be a metal song, but I hope it still brings something to the table for ya! =)
