I like it.

I like how it's sad at the beginning, but moves into a serious march-like tone. It's hard to describe, but I hope you get the jist of what I'm trying to say.

All in all:

Melody and Chords: Excellent. I loved them throughout.
Instruments: Flawless choice, great articulation too.
Flow: Flawless. Nothing more can be said.
Drums: That timpani is ridiculously powerful, I need to start using my own timpani samples like that. Drums are awesome.
Beginning and end: Lumped together because they're both great. Ending could be slightly smoother though, just a tad.

10/10, just want to mention the one song in the related subs section called The Bukkake Udon Song. Lemme say that again, Bukkake Udon Song. Bukkake. WTF?

FairSquare responds:

Wow, did i just get a ten from you? 0_0
Haha, but i have to agree with you on the ending though. It was actually worse when i made it, but i reduced it from 'totally not smooth' to 'could be slightly smoother' :p
And i really appreciate the review :-)
Now i'm going to listen to that song you mentioned, really interested what it sounds like xD
Thanks for leaving a review!

cool

I really liked how the oboe or w/e reed instrument that was came in. Timpani and crashes were definitely added alot to the feeling of this piece. Strings were placed well in the background, and the xylophone hits, thought sparse, brought out the melody nicely. I would use them more when possible.

The piano sounded a little grainy on the low end of the spectrum. Otherwise, very well done.

Finding a lost friend might be a more cheery occasion, but I liked your take on it.

FairSquare responds:

Well, i had my doubts about the Marimba (not xylophone ;p), so i decided to keep it out the rest of the melody.
Thanks so much for the review!

small details

+++
melody- just about perfect
transitions between parts
mood of the piece
everything else that i don't mention below

-----
drums- started off well, but as the song went on, it felt like it lost importance
(beginning: cool, the drums came in->end: wait, the drums are still playing?)
ending was between loud and soft, i think it should have been one or the other, either dramatic/loud or sad/soft, instead, it sounded abrupt at that volume

I think the title is more accurate than the scene you were trying to describe. The whole piece had great feeling to it as far as a lost friend goes, but it never felt like you found the friend

STILL...
Great job! i can't wait to hear your next submission

FairSquare responds:

Well, that happens to drums most of the times because you get used to it. Maybe i could put a bit more variation on the drums though.
And about the ending.. i might change that. Don't count on anything though, i'm very lazy :p
Thanks for this review and all of your other reviews too, it keeps me thinking about my songs :-)

This is extremely well done.

The intro of this song reminds me very much of the game Star Ocean: the Second story, the particular track "Venerable Forest" This is like if you took that song and took its mood down a notch. but this made me think of it. This piece fits the scene you described fairly well i like how this turned out. And the fact that you reminded me of one of my personal favorite games gets you bonus points. I find myself curious to check out your other work now.

FairSquare responds:

Hmm, i'm going to search for that song now :p
And if you check out my other work, check out my classical ones :-)
Thanks for the review!

The Scene is PERFECT

I don't need to say much, all of the people below me have already said everything that I could say! The scene you created is just what it needs to be!

You have done a tremendous job! Keep up great work like this! Thank you for participating in MSC1 and challanging yourself!

<PS>

FairSquare responds:

Wow, thanks PenguinSam. Means alot, coming from you :-)
