We Three Kings

This is my 2008 song for the Christmas season, a tower built to stand in the shadow of my last one, Carol of the Bells. The instrumentation has been spiced up a bit, but retains the same core drive:

Piccolo
Flute
Clarinet
Bass Clarinet
Oboe
Bassoon
Alto Saxophone
Tenor Saxophone
Baritone Saxophone
Trumpet
French Horn
Trombone
Tuba
Glockenspiel
Celesta
Gong
Concert Bass Drum
Suspended Cymbal
Marching Snares
Marching Tenors
Marching Basses
Lead Guitar (Distorted)
Rhythm Guitar (Distorted)
Acoustic 12-string guitar
Chordal Guitar (Flange and Phaser)
Drum Set
Voice (Vocoder)

It should be noted that the only instruments listed that were recorded from scratch here were the Chordal Guitar recorded on a B.C. Rich Warlock Bronze Edition, a Marshall 40 Watt amp and a trusty ol' Buchanan hammer mic into a MAckie 1202 VLZ-pro mixing board, as well as the same mic but used to record my own voice singing the first verse of the song, before using the Fruity Vocoder to place it neatly in the chord progression.

All other instruments were either soundfonts or VST Instruments (Slayer One and Two). All content was written out note-for-note by me, and arranged based on the traditional early 1900's hymn "We Three Kings," as well as a small segment of Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from his now-famous Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a, adapted from 4/4 time into 3/4 time to create what one might consider Rhythmic Dissonance, if such a thing can exist.

Enjoy, and please leave comments. I love getting them.

Great song!

I randomly searched for "We three kings" And I think this is better than the first result. I was actually hoping for a rock-ish version of the song. It sounds very cool! It sounded awesome at 0:45 and 1:45/ Very modern twist to a classic.

And the person below needs to have his ears examined.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I'll be pumping out another christmas tune around early December, as dictated my tradition.

And a very merry, very early Christmas to ye, good sir.

ok... heres the scoop

I had anticipated this would be good afrom the intro.... but I don't know what you did.... but you picked harmonies that don't suit the song.... and then you decide to speed it all up at 1:45? like what is this? I know you were attempting to make something pretty epic here.... but, there are some things you could do to improve this.... like take out thoses strange vocals.... and watch ur harmonies....

Hyper-Freak92 responds:

Sorry, I don't really take any advice seriously from people who haven't bothered to learn the language they're using. Perhaps you should "watch ur grammar" before being so critical. You may be musically knowledgeable for all I know, but nobody will take you seriously that way.
