This remix of "Charge" from Cave Story was made in PxTone for the album "PXTUNES celebrates CAVE STORY ~ 20th Anniv. Arrange". From the Ptweb description:
"Charge" was a later pick that wasn't immediately on my radar. As the other tracks slowly started having people calling dibs, a thought suddenly crossed my mind to take the melody of "Charge" and turn it into a sort of darker, rave-like dance beat. I thought it would work well, since a lot of dance music relies on that sort of repetition and what better way to take a 9 second loop and stretch it out further? I called dibs on this and went to work. It might have been shortly after the "Living Waterway" remix, I can't remember.
Finishing this remix was actually quite a challenge, mainly because of the timing (headed down to Seattle for a few days for PAX West), but then I finally remembered that the Wii remix existed. It was hilarious, considering I knew right away I wanted to take elements of the Wii versions for "Access" and "Living Waterway". But this one, I didn't think to listen to the Wii version at all until I was about halfway through. The broken up chiptune rhythms stuck out to me, but they were a bit too disjointed for what I had going on, so I just took the first part, added some lower notes for depth and then stretched it out.
This was probably the most challenging out of the three remixes I did, just because there wasn't really that much to work with, so I'm glad I was able to actually finish it in time. I didn't want to add too many new ideas, as I thought it was important to let elements of the original come through. Thank you to jaxcheese for organizing and putting together this behemoth of a Cave Story remix album.
