I got a request to upload an older track that wasn't available here, so here's Ikebaby, a track I made together with the fantastic artist Robotprins back in 2017 which he featured on his Friend Force album. Robotprins is an extremely talented Swedish musician based in Japan – go check out his other work!

So, quite a blast from the past but it still makes me smile to this day and I hope it brightens up your weekend.

Gwain Saga = Dope Poggers

this is such a fun song!! also, just wanted to ask, why is pretty much every bitpop artist from sweden or other scandanavian places? whats the common factor there? and does it have anything to do with the rise of Slagsmalsklubben (which, to my knowledge, is the first bitpop band)? im trying to piece together a full coherent story of bitpop so far as a genre.
Thanks and also awesome tune!!!

rymdkraft responds:

Good question, actually I think it can be related to so many people having PC's (and of course gaming consoles) growing up in Sweden, even way back before internet times. The demoscene was quite large and people made electronic tracker music everywhere, even Axwell from Swedish House Mafia started out making Fasttracker 2 music. When growing up here in the 90s you also could get financial support from the government to practice music in rehearsal rooms they built across the country, plus free music tutoring, which probably wasn't all that common around the world. Regarding Slagsmålsklubben, I do believe they don't want to be labeled as bitpop or chiptune since they actually perform and record using real, old synthesizers rather than gaming console audio or having demoscene chiptune influences. I'd say they're more a reaction to super serious synth music, almost "ironic synth" with funny track names and.. well, less seriousness. Absolute legends. But I get why they get cast in the same slot sometimes since those synths can sound pretty bitpoppy, with arps and everything.
