Song about glitchy drums and secretly some coughs. Made for NGUAC

I like the quirky percussion minimal bass line at the beginning. The piece is a tad slow to progress at first, and the texture could use a bit more fill for the first minute or so. The slidey synth melody at :58 is really refreshing, though. The atmosphere could use a bit of fleshing out, as the body of the sound remains pretty thin, especially in the middle and treble frequency ranges. Later on, some variety in the harmonic content or, especially, the main melody would’ve also been welcome. The composition just doesn’t feel very bold here, despite the fun sound design and arrangement details (like the recordings of coughing). Overall, the mixing, rhythmic content, and instrumentation are really good, but I’d like to push you to really have a big moment of arrival later on in the piece that gives it a sense of overarching development. Keep at it, mjattie! Thanks for coming out to the NGUAC. ^_^

Thanks! The song isn't totally finished and you have some good ideas to add. Melodically it would be cool if there was some variation. Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting choice of synths and arrangement, though it is a slowburner in terms of development!

I think your cymbals could afford to come down just slightly. As the only thing in that space, they are taking my focus away from other elements of the track. The bass consequently can afford to come up. The levels in the sparse arrangement at 1:31 are slightly mid heavy.

Your overall production is alien and ethereal, owing to that distorted theremin line. I would have appreciated a bit more wetness and splash here. It sounds comparatively dry and empty, despite the clear use of distortion, saturation, and delays elsewhere.

Certainly very interesting sound design and bold choices all around though. Nice work!

mjattie responds:

Thanks, I was going for a weird vibe. Agree with your feedback, appreciate it!

Hey mjattie! First things first, a very bold and wide mix, which is really nice. Your instrumentation choices are also very nice. I think as others have said, a little slow to get into things, but once you do, you manage to hook me in as a listener. The melody at 00:58 is really good and your percussive work in the next part is also interesting. The song has quite a mysterious vibe all-in-all. My favourite part of course, has to be the cough ending ;D best of luck in the NGUAC!

mjattie responds:

Hiii ethereal! Thanks for the review! I totally agree with the feedback, the intro is rushed, maybe a shorter song would've been better. I didn't have time to work on it for more than one evening unfortunately. But I'm glad it still hooked you in!

A bit of repetitiveness, but I love the sound of this!

Some. Ice beats came with this and a good tune starts off slow but tends to flow with the nice mix and beats
